You can't live with em you can't live without em...

Unable to contain my excitement about Charlie, I did a silly thing and told my sister - not the killer heelz sister, the other one!

:-)

Her reply was this:

"..don't you think you had enough of heartache? Why get another one? You can love and get attached to animals as you have known 6 times over so why give yourself more grief? Don't you like to travel before you grow really old? See the world, do other activities apart from your lovely creative writing or just give up your Sunday job rather than work 7 days a week because keeping a beloved pet could drain you emotionally, financially and psychologically. Besides you have already given more than 20 years to loving cats..."

S'okey she doesn't read my blog. Well she didn't last I checked!!

My point is this: Families. Dontcha just love em?!?!?!

:-)
p.s. I'm sure she means well!

Yes, especially when they tell you what to do for your own good lol!

My Dad always says that everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion. I say, adopt cats, we deserve it! You go girl!!!

Love is an individual thing, I suppose. I would much rather spend the time I have here in this life loving someone, then trapsing around watching others love each other.

I love my cats, I don't appologize for that. You have a wonderful heart, you shouldn't appologize either!
I think you are wonderful for wanting to help this little kitty.

She sounds like mine Old Kitty. Sometimes, I just put the phone down and let her preach to the tabletop while she tells me everything that I should or shouldn't do! Don't you just love 'em!

I am sure she means well too :). I know from my personal experience the type of happiness my cats give me is no words that can describe it because it is simply awesome :).

Don't get me started on family trying to protect one from oneself!!! I could be here till judgement day.

those who do not share the knowledge of the precious gift of love and devotion and loyalty from an animal just don't understand that it is not a sacrifice. i am sure that you know what is right for you ... and that there will be no regrets for the choices you make.

And people wonder why I am glad I am an only child :) But really I am guessing she has no pets - because really, we all get why you are so excited about Charlie! We are the same way!

Life isn't worth living if you don't have at least one cat! :o)

Its part of a sister's job description to give you advice and part of your job description to ignore it :) Families are funny things...but (as Anne from Persuasion should have/could have said) it should be our choice who we love - cats included.

Jacqueline said...

All love contains pain because all love will eventually, one way or another, lead to loss...But living without love is not an option for those with loving, open hearts; with your eyes open to reality, always listen to and follow your heart!...Revel in your excitement for Charlie, you deserve it and it's only a few days away!!

Jenny Woolf said...

The way to look at it is probably to think that at least she cares enough to give you advice. Is she an older or a younger sister by the way?

Marg said...

I know just how you feel. All my friends are always telling me to get rid of my animals and that is just not a choice. There is nothing better than the love for an animal. So you are doing just the right thing to get Charlie. He will be just what you need. People just don't understand how wonderful it is to have animals. Take care.

Not an animal person, I see. In her way sister meant well--however, I'm a cat, and sister may not know how to really say what she meant--she doesn't want you sad. You're happy and Charlie is happy and The Cat is happy for you in Heaven. Live ON!

Ah, well. Often biological families are very different from families of the heart.

I'll ditto Jacqueline's comments, since I couldn't put it better than that.

Theresa Milstein said...

Oh oh - I'm sure my sister feels that way about my advice!

I think animals are great companions, but they shouldn't prevent you from traveling or dating, which is why cats are pretty good pets. And they're nice to have around when writing.

You enjoy your new cat. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

It seems every family has one of those! I am an only child but I do have a friend or tow who may sound like that - I just don't call them! Nothing is greater than opening your heart to another creature - you both will be blessed.

Oh dear, well, I hope she's been more supportive than that at other times :)

Now if Charlie hisses at her every single time she comes round, you'll know why! :P

Hello back! Thanks for the post on my blog--I checked a time zone site to find out how much 'in the future' you are from me-just 5 hours.

I agree with what the cat Noir says about family! :)

Takin' a break from cleaning out my back room. Oh my...there IS a floor. Cats are helping. Made at myself I've waited so long. At least I"m getting my exercise in. :)

.....and yes, Donny Osmond! For smiles, you can search Donny Osmond on my blog.... :)

Back to the tossin' out!

Have a great night!
