Lilliputian toolbox

Yesterday, just before Dr. Who the screw pin holding the bit of my specs that hangs over my ear became loose and popped out.

Luckily the glasses fell apart just as I was taking them off to rub my weary eyes as I've been manically typing my er.. attempt at my novel.

Unluckily this is when I realise how itty bitty tinier-than-a-dust particle the screw pin is.

How I found it on my beige carpet is another story. Needless to say it involved me on my hands and knees, some masking tape, a brush and a cacophony of rude words!

But find it I did! Hooray! Next problem was how to screw the thing in.

Did I mention how tiny this screw pin is? You can just see this dot under the broken bit. That's the screw pin.

Anyway as I didn't have a Lilliputian toolbox kit and as this happened when all the opticians were closed, I had to make do with more masking tape until next week.

So today I shall be going to work sporting me new look. I call it shabby chic glasses.

Bet you can't see where the tape starts and ends, can you? I comfort myself that maybe this will give me the air of a hard-up writer far too busy writing her masterpiece to care. As if.

:-)

Charlie shows his concern for my distress.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone!

Yes, I see how concerned Charlie is. *laughs*

Well, the masking tape was brilliant, I thought. Not wearing glasses--almost time but not quite yet--tape wouldn't have occurred to me. I think you were quite resourceful, actually!

You have a lovely Sunday too, and try not to get Charlie that worked up!

How cruel is it that they make the screw so tiny, and you're supposed to find it when you aren't wearing your glasses to help you SEE?

Good idea to use the tape. I'm glad you persevered.

And Charlie again reminds me of Shaggy and the anguish my cat goes through when I'm under stress. Normally, she stretches in a sunspot to contemplate the situation.

Happy Sunday to you!

The tape was a brilliant idea... I'll bet it was Charlie's suggestion, wasn't it.

Shabby chic is so in right now, don't you know? Enjoy!

Love the Charlie photo!

One of my sons has his glasses held together with a blob of green modelling clay.

"Shabby chic". I must remember that.

Charlie looks distraught at the thought of you wearing your specs with masking tape holding them together!

Those little screws are devils to find - they ought to be made to bleep until you find them. It's funny really you need glasses because you can't see without them properly and they make the screws so small you couldn't see them with 20/20 vision!

One of the great mysteries in life, why is the screw on glasses so tiny when you can't possibly see it without your glasses? I can't see without mine. I am sure Charlie was quite helpful. Hope your repair holds till you get a screwdriver.

I have done that before, used tape to glue the glasses together. That screw is tinier than tiny. You see I couldn't have gotten the tape on the glasses without the glasses. I do have two pairs now.
Now, Charlie, I want you to calm down. You need to take a nap.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

Jack Duckworth used to have a pair like that! I hear he is going to retire from Coronation Street.

I'm glad you got your glasses back together - very inventive! And try not to stress Charlie out so much. :)

That's a clever one! A YA book I once read from the States had a character find a missing earring (?) by sticking a pair of tights over the Hoover nozzle and hoovering the carpet till it turned up.... never tried that...! :)

Um...speaking as a jeweller, until you get the tiny screwdriver, what you need to make a neat join is wire. Line up the holes, thread it through, twist, and voila! Fuse wire will do.

That tape is a bit over-enthusiastic...

Glad to see Charlie is so supportive!
He is obviously helping by generally being gorgeous! xx

Charlie is taking this whole situation very hard!! He is so distressed he can't even stand up.

Love the new look glasses. I have glasses like that. Now dubbed "Writers Glasses"

So glad you found the screw. They are so tiny it's hard to work with them even when you have a tiny tool.

Thanks for your kind words on the store. Was really discouraged after finishing another 12 hour day glued to the chair trying to figure out what I'm doing. Your comment helped a bit this morning.

you definitely did a great job with the tape. I used tape to fix the window screens that my cats ripped open. It worked pretty well. :)

Charlie is so adorable. I want to give him cuddles :).

This happened to me while I was driving at night once in the middle of no where! I need my glasses to drive and I had to balance them on my nose very carefully until I could get home ...not fun. Now I keep a spare pair in the car just in case!

Charlie is very expressive ... cats are so lucky that they have no need of glasses.

Yah- been there, done that. Though the bit about using tape to find the screw was genious!
My big problem is how to screw the pin without my glasses.
Don't get too worked up Charlie, mommy will figure it out!

I have a Lilliputian screwdriver for this sort of thing — but sadly not the special pliers for wielding it.
