Turning a - into a +

Beautiful bloggie friends – how does one cover up an ugly and hazardous pothole?

By planting a miniature garden in them!!

Like how this guy, Steve Wheen, does.

Or this guy Pete Dungey and his own version of pothole gardening:

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we were able to fill our own personal potholes with something as sublime, beautiful and positive?

Of course these little wonders of beauty don’t last very long – traffic and pollution kill them eventually – but for a few hours, even days, they brighten something as dull and dead as tarmac and perhaps inspire one or two to do the same.

Charlie says: I like these pots better!

Have an flower-filled Thursday everyone!

Wow, that is so cute that they plant little pothole gardens - you don't see anything like that around here. It is too bad they don't last long though. I would definitely have to go around!

And Lola says Hi Charlie!! (I mean, we all do but Lola especially)

What a fantastic idea! There are so many potholes in Chicago. People were complaining about it. They should have thought about planting flowers so the city would be less gloomy and more lively.

What a wonderful idea. Fill potholes with beautiful flowers. I am all for it. Mind you it could be dangerous though.

Have a wonderful colourful bright Day!

The first picture reminds me of Alice and Wonderland.

When plants and flowers grow, even temporarily, in little patches of dirt surrounded by cement and tar, it fills me with hope. It's like the wild wants to take over, as much as we try to tame it.

Charlie is always the voice of reason.

Ha! That's quite inventive and cute!

I just love the little chair and book next to the flower - how cheerful! I can see those flowers in the pothole getting squished pretty quickly, but what a lovely idea.

What a fabulous idea! Yes, if only we filled our own personal potholes with beauty.

BTW, our city streets are so bad, if we filled all the potholes with flowers we'd have endless gardens. Rather a lovely thought! :-)

That is so lovely, nature wins over ugliness, all for that.

How brilliant. We have a giant pothole outside our flat and I'd love to plant some flowers in it, but I fear I might get run over!

Charlie is SO lovely!

Muttie says (sigh, she's doing it again!) thanks so much for the namecheck on Talli's blog :) She's right too, Muttie often finds it's mostly US writing bloggers she comes across.

Apparently we're going to have more potholes than ever before because all that ice got into them over the winter and cracked them open. Or that's the latest excuse round here for putting up the council tax.

Oh well - more space for gardens... :)
