Oh to be a sloth

Sloths.
What’s not to like?

They move only when necessary.
They take so long to climb a tree algae will start to grow on their fur.
They live their lives in perpetual slow motion, feeding on this leaf that bud and this shoot.

Of course they can move quickly but only when threatened.
Otherwise they stay put and don’t waste unnecessary energy.

Oh and they’re so darned cute.

Here is a video of orphaned baby sloths.

While it’s sad to know that their mums have been killed by either being run over or by being electrocuted by power lines, it’s very, very, very hard not to feel the world is a happier more wonderful place for having these sweeties to share this planet with. Awwwwwwwwww!

Meet the sloths from Amphibian Avenger on Vimeo.

Charlie says: Yep, no point wasting energy when you can just sleep.

Have a restful Wednesday everyone!

Did anyone else think of the spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp when the two sloths were eating the same stalk? :-)

Where do you find these things?

They're awfully cute, I must say. And yes, Charlie has the right idea! Ever-wise Charlie.

CBaby sloth is so cute.
Careful there Charlie, you are too near the steps.

Charlie looks a bit uncomfortable...perhaps he's in a bit of danger sleeping at the top of the steps.

Sorry your sister was late, but I'm glad you still had a good time and that the food and tea was nice. :)

There's a reason Mommy calls us sloths? Oh, we guess there is. Nevermind.

I've been feeling very sloth-like lately. Only not this cute.

We loved the two sloths eating the same shoot - it made us giggle. We also loved the picture of the one laying in the hanging seat.
Our Mum wanted to give Charlie a belly rub when she saw him laying on the floor showing off!!

I fear I could get very comfy with the sloth lifestyle!

Those sloths are cute. I have never seen one before.
Charlie, please be careful and don't roll down those steps.
Hope you have a really good day.

Gotta love sloths! I think I'm descended directly from a sloth. I certainly have their attitude.

(PS - How on earth did I miss your Ritz post yesterday! I'm off to read it now!)

How did they evolve without something else eating them all up? They must have found a niche....

I admit that I love sloths - their faces are just so cute! It is sad about their moms but it is good that they are ok and being cared for!

And Charlie, I think you are smart to nap - I wish I could join you!

Glad to see Charlie is enjoying some rest. Yesterday we woke up to Magellan's paws straight it the air-like he was a person. It was hysterical.

I have always been fascinated with sloths at the zoo.

Oh,,,,Charlie's not in the way or anything, is he? Perfect place to rest!

Thanks for the wonderful video showing the sloths. I didn't realize they were so cute. Sure are slow moving tho'. Not type A personalities, is there a type Z? I think they could be a calming influence. Good to see the orphans being taken care of so well. :)

I love how sloths dangle slowly,
their precariousness so lowly.

Rumour has it that these were the original lyrics for So Lonely by The Police. If only Sting had gone with the sloths, there'd have been none of this Sue Lawley nonsense.

that is the cutest video EVER! how adorable!!!

By the way, I did a quick search for sloths here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloth

A new study determined that they actually sleep about 10 hours per day rather than the 15-18 hours previously thought. So they do have some extra time to "hang out"!

Such sweet, happy faces they have!
But we guess we'd be happy too if we lead a sloth's life. Yawn... we think we'll go and practice.

A few years ago, one of my students did a report on sloths. Now I know what a bad reputations they've had all this time.
