The Wrath of Grapes

So I was talking to a work colleague, "A", relating to him how I couldn't believe this shopper at my beloved Waitrose.

This guy had parked his trolley infront of the bit where they had bunches of grapes and started picking AND eating one grape here, one grape there.

Picking and eating.

Now I was telling "A" how I don't mind if said person was testing a few bunches so he'd pick the best one. Or maybe he was just really hungry, who knows?

All I know was that after he picked at this grape and that and ate them he walked away without taking any to buy.

Leaving me to rummage through for a bunch that he had not touched! And there wasn't many of them left.

Unfortunately when I stopped my rant, "A" said very quietly, "I do that when I go shopping."

Ooopsie.

Maybe I should read this book to avoid further faux pas!

p.s. Charlie doesn't know if this book's any good - he just likes the cover!

Have a great Friday everyone!

Why would anyone eat the grapes like that? It's not put out for a shopper snack. Maybe by you telling this tale, the friend will no longer do it and there will be one less grape-stealer in the grocery stores.

There is a proverbs in Malay "Cakap malam dengar-dengar, cakap siang pandang-pandang"

The meaning in English is 'When you talk at night you have to open your ears (hear if there is anything) and when you talk at day time you have to open your eyes wide (to make sure you talk to someone correctly) :P

I guess you understand what i meant to say ;)

My grandfather used to cut pieces out of melons and to taste them. I never saw him put one back that he had 'tested' but then again I refused to go with him very often.

Hey, rude is rude, no getting around it! Hey, want a good book? Housecat Confidential by my friend Fin, it is so good! Got mine yesterday from Amazon. If you're not friends with Fin you should be, she's a hoot! Hello Charlie!

Um, i don't think you made a faux pas. It's pretty freaking rude to eat things you know other people are going to touch.

I've put my foot in my mouth too. We all have! As faux pas go, eating grapes for free is WAY worse than complaining about someone out about eating grapes for free to someone who eats grapes for free. Maybe this coworker will think twice before skimming from the bunches.

That cut pulls of a tiara way better than me. And in such a "I don't care" kinda way.

hmmm. Our Daddy has done that...the tasting...and Mommy rips him a new thermometer port. We say remove foot from mouth pronto. No such thing as "tester" grapes!

Then I think your co-worker needed to hear your story! I mean, in my opinion that's stealing...eating produce without paying for it? Yep, stealing. And gross. :-S

That would bother me too. Grapes--leave 'em alone until you own them.

Love the title of that book!

Oh, how funny! Do you think "A" was serious and he really does that?

What a very rude shopper - I wouldn't have wanted to buy those grapes either - yuck.

That looks like my kind of book!

Oh dear! I think I would have said the same as you, Kitty!

Love that book cover.

Mama is with you, she wouldn't want grapes that had been touched all over either!

Actually, that's shoplifting, to eat produce at the grocery store. Seriously. I think I'd have made a sarcastic comment to the man and maybe reported him to the manager!

That book looks great! :-)

Happy Friday to you and Charlie!

Hehehe - love the title "Wrath of Grapes!" ...

I've even seen parents picking and feeding grapes to their children!!!
It is just so wrong and disturbing!!

I've never understood people who do this. It's stealing to eat what you haven't paid for.

I'm sure "A" is a nice enough person, but you aren't the one that should feel awkward about the conversation!

Ah haha! Oh, Old Kitty, this is too funny. I didn't know people actually *did* that. Crazy!

At least you're not one of them!

Wonder if he makes a cheese sandwich on the way round too and puts the bread and the cheese back on the shelves!

That is not very nice to eat all the grapes but one way to get some free food and at least it was healthy food.
Hope that puter tech is there today. We are missing Charlie's pictures and we know you are missing your computer. Have a super week end.

Hope "A" doesn't steal grapes any more!!

We really want to read that book!!
Must be fun!

Many years ago in a corner shop I saw a man unscrewing the lids of spice jars, licking his finger, putting it in the jar and sampling the spice. He did this with several jars, putting them back on the shelf, until he found the one he was looking for.

I guess this is why we now have little plastic bands round the tops of food in jars...

It peeves me when people do that too! It's basically stealing.

I hope 'A' learned to better mind his manners.

Happy Weekend! :)

Ah, Charlie. We love that book cover, too. Especially the expression on the cat's face. Don't blame you about the grapes, though.

Ok, I would never eat grapes the store at all, let alone eat a lot then not buy any! That is just so surprising to me. But that story is totally something I would do!

Tell Charlie HI from us!!!

HAve a great weekend!

I hate people who do that! It's so cheap! But I must buy that book - have Charlie read it and tell me if it's any good:)

Thats very funny, wonder did "A" think you had seen him/her in the act of grape theft and think you were having a little dig?
Maybe you just caught the shopper at desert... perhaps he'd already had his bread and cheeses!

WE don't understand this?
But then we don't understand a lot of things!

What is wrong with the world?

I can understand testing a grape but technically it is stealing. What that man did was not only illegal, it was extremely inconsiderate.

I love the tiara that cat is wearing -- just looks natural! :)
