Watching the watches

Watches, according to one of my work colleagues, are so last decade.

Apparently most people rely on their iphones, ipods, iwhatever and various other techno gizmo hand held gadgetry for time keeping.

Whether that’s true or not, I find myself all nostalgic for my childhood watches – the ones with the little nobby button at the side of the clock face that needed winding up every hour or so else the clock will stop.

Needless to say I was, and continue to be, very bad at timekeeping.

Charlie says: I watch my string.

Bloggie friends! The Weekend beckons ever closer! Hoooorah!!!

Aha, speaking of watches, my other watch is a digital....and that's not a 'wind-up'
Kind wishes and a Mickey Mouse watch, your way, Gary :)

We cats only obey the stomach clock!

Hmmm, Jan feels naked without a watch. Doesn't matter how many clocks are around, she likes a wristwatch.

OOPS
Don't tell my Mom that Charlie.
She must have 50 watches.

She loves watches (although I bet you would have never guessed)!

Happy Tuesday!

I happen to love watches too! My son won't wear one because he has a cell phone and I hardly ever see me daughter with one either!
Have a nice week! I have been ultra swamped and not around as much as I like.
Happy Wednesday Charlie!

that reminds me of a watch I got one Christmas with a leather band and an interesting face. I never liked metal bands; they pinch. my kitties like string, too :)

i still rely on watch...:)

I adore watches!!! Because of where my tattoo is, I have to wear them on my right hand, which is weird.

As for using phones, some places will get you for having your phone out during working hours.

Tell Charlie that watched strings won't move :)

I like using my phone for time. I kind of miss watches, but I don't miss setting them

I don't like leaving home without a watch, even though I barely use it. I normally keep an eye on the clock on my phone. But habits die hard!

I had some fun watches as a child but now don't wear one. My body energy causes them to speed up or slow down so they are never correct. I rely on my phone or car! Hey Charlie!!!

I know you won't believe this, but I never had a watch until I was in the Army.
I love watches now, but when I was a kid, time was not something I paid attention to.
Love the kitty

I am with you. I still LOVE my watches. I am opposite from you though because I am always early, never late. It is almost embarrassing. I tend to be a MINIMUM of a half hour early for everything!

Remember the old Mickey Mouse watches? Loved them!

I wish I had a watch now. My phone won't keep a charge and now I Can't tell what time it is.

Did it move ?

LOL, it's only Wednesday!

I haven't worn a watch since I quit teaching. I had to live by the minute for 17 years...and of course all the years before that. Now I hope I remember my phone so I know what time it is. I used to be the person who was on time...I'm always late now. HMMM

Maybe Charlie would like a Mickey Mouse watch.
Love and peace.

I've got a wristwatch with a knob to turn the hands! Very simple, very plain, very practical!

Charlie is so cute. My Bonnie has been stalking a toy mouse under a chair - she waits very patiently for it to do something!

Charlie, as always, you have the right idea.

As I'm hopeless with knowing where my mobile is at most times, I need my watch! Happy Wednesday!

Kea said...

I like my watch--and I don't have any of those other gadgets, so I do need one!

I remember my very first one, it was a Cinderella watch--she was running down the palace steps, minus one glass slipper. :-)

Oh, and I accidentally flushed one down a toilet, years ago while in college. Fell right off my wrist (broken strap) as I was pressing the lever and I watched it go down in a swirl. LOL.

My watch battery died a while back and it took me several weeks to get out to the mall and get it fixed. Anyway, I figured why did I really need it, when my cell phone has the time on it? Problem is, you have to pull your cell phone out and (at least with mine) flip it open to see the time, which isn't always convenient to do, especially when you're in a meeting or having a conversation. A quick glance at the watch is much more discreet!

Oh, I love the photo...so so sweet!
I actually don't even wear a watch; nor do I carry a cell phone but have my eye on the clock in my classroom all the time so kids can come and go and not be late!
...just not a keeper of time outside my school day!

Good for Charlie!
I love his little house.

I say yay to watches and clocks and boo to ipod iphone clocks unless absolutely necessary. :O)

I am with you on the watches, all the other stuff dies all the time unless you are really vigilant on charging them.
Cute Charlie picture!

I have to admit, I haven't worn a watch for years!! I do remember all the adorable little Timex's I had as a child, though!

I don't have a watch. I'm one of those newer generations that just use the clock on the mobile phone. Can't wait for the weekend.

I haven't worn a watch in a really long time. I dunno why, I don't think they're outdated- they're still a fun accesory. I guess my cell phone works as my personal time piece now a days...but that still wouldn't look good strapped to my wrist.

KarenMcG said...

Charlie, I'm with "Old Kitty" I like the watches, too.

Now string? Hmmm. Does it get you there on time?

Hannah and Lucy said...

Our mum says she feels undressed without her watch on - apart from in the shower it is always on her wrist. We are glad she wears it as she can keep looking to see if it's time for dinner!
We hope you are enjoying your string Charlie.
luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

JE said...

LoL. I don't wear a watch, however, sometimes I still look at my wrist to see the time. Silly, JD!

Charlie was waiting for the string to move. ;-)

I like watches too, they bat around on the floor much easier than cell phone! Right Charlie?!?!

I turned 40 back in November. I too am one for nostalgia and refuse to buy a Kindle. I love books!

Mom had to laugh at this one. She stopped wearing a watch a while ago. In part since she is on the computer all day and the watch annoys her while she types. She would put it on, get to work and take it off and sometimes forget to put it back on. Now, like so many others, she relies on her phone. :)

Bossy Betty said...

Yes! I've always wanted to be a watch girl, but I can;t stand the thing around my wrist! I love the way they look though.

Joanna St. James said...

I love watches, I had to wind mine every night but i have not worn one in ages. Have you seen Ice Watches? they are so juvenile and stylish.

Jenny Woolf said...

It's easier to look at a watch than pull out a phone IMHO!

Rene said...

I still wear a watch every day (battery operated, never liked digital)!

Unknown said...

Oh boy, that's definitely true for me, heh. The only reason I wear a watch anymore is for fashion, rather than telling time. WHOOPS.

Wind-up watches and clocks. Brings back childhood memories. It amazes me, O.K., how you keep coming up with the most interesting life tidbits. I just love coming over here! Hi from Jen, too!!

PK HREZO said...

I think about this all the time, actually and wonder if watches will soon become totally obsolete. I haven't worn one in years, since I started carrying around a cell and I don't miss them. Altho, I know what you mean, there's something fun about them, too.

Hart Johnson said...

Me... I just never know what time it is. I treat watches poorly and so have given them up... but I don't have a cell phone either...

Tucker The Crestie said...

We like our watches (and clocks), too. Some things just can't be replaced.

There is a lot to be said of life before all the technology but then we would have no internet and that would be awful.. LOL Charlie you have the right idea.. Hugs GJ xx

Yes, right up there with telephone booths and busy signals... one day we woke up, and they were gone.
I'm glad to see that you and Charlie are doing well.

What a cute picture of Charlie. What if you don't have Ipods etc. I don't have a watch either but I do miss those ole timey ones that you wind up. They were the best.
Take care and have a great day or evening.

I still wear a watch...

Theresa Milstein said...

I agree, but then my watches run out of batteries because it's been so long since I've worn them. But I do have some cute ones. I just have to bring them in for new batteries. Sigh.

Hooray for the weekend! I love watches, but I suppose they are a bit dated. Watches are handier for a quick check, though! :o)

Have a great weekend (when it hits the UK)... XOXO
