The Case of the Missing String

Bloggie friends!!!

My jaw dropped from here to eternity when I read in my morning papers that the gorgeous 38 year old Jennifer Garner is to play Agatha Christie’s doddery Miss Marple in a sleepy St Mary’s Mead transported to America and slammed straight into the 21st century!

I’d love to juxtapose a pic of my favourite Miss Marple (80+ year old Joan Hickson) and Jennifer Garner but copyright and all that – so here is a link to an image of both women.

I reserve judgement until I see the shows first. I just think it’s hilarious but it could just work. Let’s hope!

Charlie says: My string has disappeared.

Yay – one day to Friday!

Awe...poor Charlie. Get the cat another string. Stat. He'll sit and wait for it to appear, for as long as it takes...he doesn't care. Don't waste a life, Charlie...it's only a string. There are birds outside. Go hear them sing. Before you know it, it'll be forgotten about, until the birds fly away and leave you with doubt...that life as a feline is "the cat's meow". But rest assured, Charlie my friend...if this life get's you down, you still have many to spend.

Now you're talking - Jennifer Garner is hot!

I have my doubts about that casting, too. We'll see.

Tell Charlie I said hi!

This is an odd choice to play Miss Marple (I loved Agatha Christie mysteries and devoured them when I was young) All I can think is that the producers are hoping to bring in a young audience that haven't read the books and don't care if the casting is all wrong.

Jenn you had me laughing so hard at your comment about Martha! She is a very pushy type of person ...lol

Oh yea, they sure do look alike! LOL! I'll bet the younger one took Charlie's string!!!

Interesting news! I'm not too sure about how that we'll be. Thanks for the update!

Happy almost Friday! :)

INSANE. Someone on Facebook suggested Betty White. I also think Helen Mirren could pull it off.

How about not someone nearly our age?

I hear Poirot may be played by Justin Bieber.

What a perfect match! The movie should be good!
Charlie, I can't wait until Friday. This week is way to hectic!

Wow! I hadn't heard this yet! Can't wait to see what they do with this - love Ms. Marple :)

Hmm, we'll have to see if she does the story and character justice!

Light bulb.... they should star Charlie. Or me.... I'd look the part . Holy Moly. We were just talking about Agatha. It's as if the media wants to erase all old people from the universe. Like we wouldn't have a mind to solve a crime.....

It will be interesting to see how Gardner handles the role of the much loved Marple.

So happy it is almost Friday!

that still has to be better than Russell Crowe as Robin hood and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian.

Hi Old Kitty
I also heard about this. Methinks only the character's name will be the same ... Where will be the insight of decades, gleaned from parallel observations of life in a sleepy village? (Hmm, this stabbing of a High Court Judge and eight members of the jury puts me in the mind of Mable the Milk, when that tin openener slipped during the community picnic of '33...)
And I do agree - Joan Hickson was the only Miss Marple in my book (apart, of course, from the one in Agatha's!)
Have a good end of week :-)
All best

I saw that yesterday too, seems a strange choice, but looking forward to seeing it on the screen.

I have to agree with you. Joan Hickson was the best Miss Marple and Jennifer Garner doesn't seem quite what Agatha Christie had in mind.
I hope Charlie finds his string.
I had to stop in mid blogging because my Borage brought in a bird onto the study rug. I have just released it and it flew away, so fingers crossed it's ok. :O)

You know, I haven't seen a Miss Marple show? Maybe they're going to base it on a younger version....?

Tell Charlie strings are not for eating (yeah, I'd watch the litter box, lol).

Simon Kewin said...

Yes, could be fun. Mind you it's a bad sign when the famous detectives are starting to look younger than you are!

Kea said...

Oooh boy. I can't even comment on that, because I just can't visualize Miss Marple as anything but elderly.

Just as, for me, "Sherlock Holmes" was Jeremy Brett's portrayal and Poirot was David Suchet's.

Hard to imagine others beings as fabulous in the roles!

Why create a completely different character and then slap the name Miss Marple on it? It's like re-making The Great Gatsby but sticking him in Chelsea and calling him The Great Smith. Not that there's anything wrong with the name Smith, but it's completely changing the original intention of the author and the premise of the book! It makes me so sad when this sort of thing happens - it's ageism for a start, let alone just plain wrong-ism.

Charlie - where did you last see your string - maybe if you go back there you will find some clues as to its whereabouts or ask Miss Marple she's sure to know.
Will the "new young" Miss Marple also have to live at the top of a tower block in LA we wonder - Joan Hickson was our favourite Miss Marple - a fluffy old lady who always outwitted the police by her observations while remaining in the background until she solved the case for the police - somehow
we can't see this working.

Marg said...

Oh noooooos Charlie. Where did that string go. Is it under the cube??
That movie sounds really good. What fun.

MEOWZA!!!!!!!!!! We think they'd better age Jenn more than that to have her play Miss Marple....mama is a super fan of Agatha's Miss Marple stories, but she says they need to age Jenn a lot more before she will watch anything they make with her as Miss Marple!!!!!! Mama needs realism!!!! :)

We love both of you bunches and bunches....xxxxxxx

I'd watch most anything with the lovely Ms Garner on the screen.

Hart Johnson said...

I will go along with that being hard to wrap my mind around... Mis Marple should be spry for 70 or 80, but believeably OLD.

Talli Roland said...

I know - I couldn't believe it when I heard that, either. That's Hollywood for you

Rene said...

Hmmm, maybe that could work.

The texting Sherlock worked so I suppose anything's possible. My first reaction was shock, though.

Justine Dell said...

Hmph. Maybe they are going to make her older? Or the article says maybe they will make the character younger? I personally like it when they tranform the actors into something you wouldn't expect, so my vote is to make Jennifer old! ;-)

Could work we will have to see. Oh Charlie who stole your string. Hope mum got you some more.. Hugs GJ x

I wish the major movie people would leave some things alone! Leave Miss Marple as she is in all her glory and write something new if they want a new young detective in the 21st century....hmmpf!

OK, off soapbox now...yay for Friday!

Ann Best said...

I just followed the link. Oh dear! I think I just may skip that one. Joan Hickson and Margaret Rutherford are the only ways I can see in that role. Well, it WILL be interesting, anyway. Ah me. What they're always trying to come up with!

Friday is almost here. And A to Z. I may wish I hadn't signed up, but I'll give it a try. My offerings are going to be particularly creative, as you'll soon see LOL.

Jackee said...

Jennifer Garner as Miss Marple???!! Inconceivable! :o)

But you're right--time will tell. I'll reserve my judgment.

Interesting casting choice . . . LOL. But you never know, it might work out somehow. :P

Great picture of Charlie!

We like Jennifer but Miss Marple well we will have to see.
Helllooo handsome Charlie.

I bet she can pull it off. JG has such a calm, mature nature and they can do wonders with makeup...

Charlie is TOO CUTE!!! :D xoxo

Charlie,

Well how did that happen? That your string is missing? Let us think about it.

The Teacher's Pets said...

I agree with you....Jennifer Garner does not look at all like Miss Marple but I suppose the makeup will do the trick for Jennifer, right? I confess I've never read any of Agatha Christie's books but I think I will now!
