Persona non grata

Awww thank you so much for your kind and supportive comments yesterday!!
You guys and gals ROCK!
You are all just too AWESOME!!!
***********************************************

Today I had to have a blood sample taken – it’s an ongoing medical thingy so am very used to the procedure except this time there was a new system in place.

Instead of the blue A4 size paper that my doctor ticks for the phlebotomist to read and know what blood samples goes in which tube, my doctor now gives me a tiny barcode.

The idea being the phlebotomist scans the barcode and et voila!! All necessary information will appear on her monitor. No more messing with bits of A4 paper – that’s so last month!

Except when the nice phlebotomist scanned my little barcode – she found nothing. The barcode failed to register anything. I had become persona non grata.

So I spent another couple of hours chasing up medical personnel able to activate my little barcode.

So maybe my blood could be taken and I could come off my fast (I had to fast for 24 hours before my blood test) and EAT something before I faint.

New technology eh? Who’d have em?!?!

Charlie says: I like paper. It makes good bedding.

Fellow soul blogger sister and shoe fetishist Ann of Inkpots n Quills is running a fab giveaway, details here! Please pop over and say I sent you and please could she give me her giveaway prize, thank you! LOL! :-)

Have a techno-paradise Thursday everyone!

Barcodes for blood work? Very high tech! As far as I know, we're still using the old-fashioned paper method for the blood requisitions. At least my doctor's office was last year. I'll find out next month when I go for my own annual blood work.

What a big pain in the butt for you! And all the while, you're starving. You have my sympathies--I don't go more than a few hours without food unless I'm sleeping. LOL.

Why doesn't the medical profession in the entire UK just listen to Charlie? He knows what's right!

Within the past two weeks I had to have my first colonoscopy. My directions told me to be on clear liquids the day before the procedure. I opted for a bit more of a drastic approach after reading up on the procedure and began my clear liquids two day prior. I also did the wonderful laxatives for two days. I thought I would be clean as a whistle. Guess what? After all that they told me I did a "poor prep" and they could only see 50% of my lovely colon. After all of that, I told them that is all they are going to see for quite some time. Thank you and goodnight Doctor.

So I feel for you!

Hi handsome Charlie, aren't you glad that you don't have to go through these things?

Hey Kitty, thanks for the mention. Your name will defo be in the hat or the bowl. Which it may be.

I hope you got something to eat before you swooned. Imagine, we are now being reduced to barcodes.

I'm glad they found you and activated your code (sounds very Matrix) before you passed out from starvation! I hate fasting blood work! Something always seems to postpone it!

Jenn bar codes (ha ha I typed bat codes first- perhaps they would have been more efficient!!) - perhaps next time your bar codes can starve for a day for you. Hope you got something to eat without having to wait much longer.
Purrs for Charlie and chocolate for you.

Wow, the NHS is really going all high-tech isn't it? When it works, that is! :)

Hope you had a good fry-up after the test.

Perhaps getting barcodes tattooed on our foreheads would help. Are you with me? You go first and then I'll go. Really! I promise!

Oh dear! Blood barcodes! Actually
I think having to do more fasting would be the thing that really get me down!

I hate that when they try to be all clever, but have failed to have a backup plan for when it fails! Sorry for the hassle!

Charlie--Cali likes paper too, though not as much as the dog, and he weighs quite a bit more and growls when you try to get the newspaper from under him...

Oh sometimes the changes are not for the better. I hope the blood tests came back good. I also hope you have now eaten a good meal. Love the picture.. Hugs GJ xx

I hope you are doing ok and get great blood test results!...Technology sucks sometimes, especially when it's not working correctly; sorry you had such a hard time...My girls like to lay on paper too and send many kisses to handsome Charlie...J, Calle, Halle, Sukki

I hope Charlie doesn't shred your piles of papers like my kitty likes to do!

And I hope you're having a happier writing day today. :) We all have down days, but you'll be okay. Also, can't we be writers and still fulfill our destinies as those crazy cat ladies? Because that's what I'm planning on. I like being a crazy cat lady!

I love the bar code method! The library uses them for automated check out and I can re-new my books over the phone or online by just having my library card's bar code number. So fast and easy. I think more and more hospitals and labs are using it for the same ease. I'm glad they were able to figure out the glitch in your bar code so you didn't have to remain fasting any longer than you needed to!
