Elementary dear Watson

So there’s a rather fabulous programme on BBC1 : Sherlock

Not just any Sherlock Holmes, a Holmes and Dr Watson brought kicking and screaming to the 21st century.

They still live in 221B Baker Street , Holmes mentions a violin and Mrs Hudson is still around. But this Sherlock prefers to txt and Watson packs a gun being an ex-soldier after being wounded in Afghanistan.

And the whole thing plays out like CSI meets Law and Order meets iconic British made up detective.

I hope all my bloggie friends from far and wide get to see this soon.

My only beef in the first episode was the use of this:

Not only was this prolific in the first episode but a few of them had phones in them that worked!

In reality these red boxes are slowly being eradicated from the London landscape and if you do see one – you’re guaranteed a phone that’s been vandalised and worse.

There’s a great 30 second scene where a traumatised Dr Watson (fresh from Afghanistan) is told by his therapist to blog about his experiences as a form of therapy!

Charlie says: My form of therapy are eat, play and rest all funny with my tail up in the air like I just don't care!

Have a momentous Monday everyone!

I hope it comes to NZ - it sounds exactly what I love to watch :)

Lovely tail shot of Charlie.

I'm sad to hear the red phone booths are disappearing. They're so a part of London. They remind me of The Avengers.

It will be interesting to see the new Sherlock Holmes. I'm a fan of Robert Downey Jr., but I thought the recent movie was terrible.

Hope you had a good weekend.

Oh, I have to see that! I love Sherlock Holmes, read all the books when I was a kid and even went to see the movie that came out this past winter (lots of eye candy, but questionable). I've always dreamed of doing a take-off where Holmes has a daughter... :p

Thanks for letting me know about the show... I'll have to check our BBC listings here. :)

I'm a big fan of anything Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, my cable provider doesn't have BBC1 on the channel listings.

And it's funny that you would have a beef with the telephone booth. All I ever wanted was to have one on display in my living room for no particular reason at all!:-0

I'll have to watch for that...we get BBC America on our cable system...and I just downloaded all the Sherlock Holmes stories on my Kindle!

Charlie, if you don't mind me saying so, you have a cute bottom.

Too bad these phones are being eradicated-I remember calling home to the US from one of them.

I'll look out for that! I wonder if it's on BBC iplayer.

I probably won't ever get to see this, unless our regular CBC picks it up, as I have only basic cable service. I'd be very interested in seeing it, though!

Even so, I don't think any actor can measure up to Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes....I still watch the episodes on the PBS station we get out of Watertown, NY. I know he wasn't well in the later years, but still, he died too soon. I would have loved to have seen him on the stage; what an actor!

That show sounds good! What a great idea to bring Sherlock Holmes into the 21st century - with texting and blogging!

Have a great Monday!

Will keep an eye out for this new Sherlock Holmes. Sounds interesting. Are they selling the phone boxes? Wouldn't it be fun to have one in the back garden!!

Charlie seems to be doing very well with his therapy.

Hi
I watched that last night, I thought it would be rubbish as I like the old Sherlock because of the olde worlde stuff, but I thought it was really good! It was different, in a good way.

Yet another Sherlock Holmes? I'm there! This must be what people are talking about when they say "Sherlock's on tonight!" on the blogs or twitter, and I really didn't think there would be so much excitement about the ones I've seen on PBS. They're ok but not that exciting. This version sounds really good, can't wait til it comes to the US.

Mum's cross she didn't watch it now
she wanted to but Coast was on and she is so in love with Neil Oliver!! - also Taggart was on and she likes that as well - still she says no doubt it will be on again!
Now to something more important - Charlie's tail which we think is very cute.
purrs to Charlie luv Hannah & Lucy

Charlie, how do you do that?? We can't figure out where all your parts are. We do see your tail.
We hope Sherlock comes over here too. Our Mom loves those kind of shows.
Have a great week.

That show sounds really cool! Haven't been able to check it out, but now I'll know to search for it.

And yeah, I chill just like Charlie. Except for the whole 'tail up' thing. That's his specialty :)

Oh fun! Thanks for sharing this- it sounds like a great series! What a shame that those phone boothes are dissapearing. They were such a traditional part of the London landscape.

Sounds like a great show. We oft wonder what Superman does to get changed.
Charlie, you incredibly gorgeous boy! You keep that tail in the air. You've earned the right!
Smooches to both of you.

Bummer that we'll have to wait until it goes to DVD before we can see it!!!!! Mama is a real Sherlock fan and has devoured everything about him....except the movie that was made last year.....she didn't like the previews so has never seen it.....our mama is a bit old-fashioned, you could say....MOL

Hi, handsome Charlie.......we hope you and your mom have a fantastic week. We luvsy'all.

Oh, sounds like a great series! Too bad the old phone booths are being eradicated. Can't they just update them? They are so iconic, like the double decker buses.

You forget to mention what those red boxes smell like inside! Yucko. Shame they're disappearing.

I haven't seen Sherlock but I have seen the adverts for it. I must check it out.

Happy Monday Old Kitty!

HI Charlie!

The phonebooths have gone the way of the dinosaurs here too. One day there will be young people who've never seen one, much less have to use one. Goodness I'm getting old!

MOL!

Bye Charlie

We saw this last night and I loved it! But yes I did notice the red phone boxes too as being out-of-place especially with working phones! Ithought they'd done a great job of bringing it up to date though. xx

I will have to wait for it to come to Netflix, but I am looking forward to it. Charlie always has the right idea.

Charlie you look so cute!

And it sounds like it is a great show - hopefully it heads over here so we can see it. But oh, to hear that the phone boxes aren't really there anymore is just a letdown to all us over here in the US (ok, at least to me).
