The One that Got Away

Kind bloggie friends please bear with me!

This is one of my pieces I sent off for a competition and of course didn't win!! But I liked it so much I thought I'd share this with you. The prize was a book on how to write short stories and you had to write - creatively - why you wanted this book.

********************************************

Help!

How do I write a story
That’s short and full of glory?
It must engage the reader
So they may perhaps consider
How life in all its complexities
May be distilled in such narratives
Without them realising
The difficulties of composing
These perfect little vignettes
I need all the help I can get.

Thank you.

Charlie says: While you were typing up that sad excuse for a poem, I beheaded Mr MacDoonagoogle.

Have a tutti-frutti Tuesday everyone!

Well, you didn't win because they could see you didn't need any help. :-)

Way to go, Charlie! LOL. Smooches to the wonderful furry boy.

Happy Tuesday!

I think that's a great poem! I think it deserves another chance. You will be submitting it again, won't you?

Charlie, way to go beheading Mr MacDoonagoogle.

Awwwww.....Tutti Frutti... this makes mom kinda sad cause that was the name of one of the foster kittens that left over the weekend. She really loved that sweet girl.

I think yours is good. Did they post the winning entry? I'm sorry you didn't win, but I bet you don't need the book to write a short story full of glory!

I remember your post on shoes, which had a poem I loved.

Charlie, what did you do to poor Mr. MacDoonagoogle?

I think it was lovely, Jennifer. The judges must have been nutty!

Well we sure don't know why you didn't win. That was an excellent poem even though Charlie didn't like it.

We liked your poem but perhaps the judges had had a bad day and just pulled an entry out of a hat. Charlie - you'll have to be more gentle with your toys - can your mum sew Mr MacDoonagoogle's head back on for you.

Love the poem, you're a great writer, I can tell by your blog posts :)
What had Mr Macdoonagoogle done to deserve such severe punishment I wonder?

I think that's rather good! Seems to me you have a talent for comic verse ...

I found your blog while over at Shannon Messenger's place. I couldn't resist taking a peek at someone who calls themselves Old Kitty. I'm a bit of a cat freak myself and even wrote a book seen through the eyes of some remarkable cat characters.

Looking forward to reading more of your posts. I see you are a poet!

Poor Mr MacDoonagoogle :(

Don't give up on the poem, it's really good and should be submitted elsewhere!

I liked your little story! I think the uncontrollable in those things is, even if YOURS is great, you have no control whatsoever of the competition...

*giggles at Charlie beheading his toy*

We all thought that poem was terrific.
No sense trying to explain someone else lack of seeing greatness!

We know if you keep at it you will reach your destination and goal.

That was so cute, I laughed out loud! :o) Thanks for sharing.

I say save it for another similar contest, it's worth another chance.

I love this poem, Old Kitty! How clever and witty!

(Did you notice my rhyme there? hehe!)

Poor Mr McThingy. I'm not even going to try to spell out his name. He's dead, anyway!

Cute poem.

Charlie sure manages to keep busy!

Ok, see I think it is a great poem. Maybe that means I need help with writing, since it didn't win. I don't know why it wouldn't have won.

And Charlie I hope that you are able to un-behead mr. macdoonagoogle so you can play with him some more and behead him again!
