Keep your pecker up!

Here is another reason why I'm not a wildlife photographer.

I was in my bedroom when I heard this unusual bird-call. I peered outside my window and lo and behold there was this wonderful green woodpecker and guess where it was?

It was next to my strawberry pot plant, cawing away!

So I grab my camera and run out at full pelt. Unfortunately I must have sounded like a herd of elephants stampeding because this beautiful bird took off the moment I came barging through!

And of course Charlie watched the whole thing from where was.

He's too mortified by my effort to say anything! :-)

The woodpecker that could have been (taken from English Country Garden site)!

Have gloriously HOT HOT HOT Saturday everyone! Stay cool please!

Maybe you need some new sneakers so you could sneak up on them! Tell her Charlie! I hope you two have a wonderful weekend!

I'm impressed with Charlie's self-control around a bird.

You need proper camera equipment. If you had one of those fancy lenses, you could've taken the picture from your room - no elephant stampeding needed!

As always, your pictures of Charlie are wonderful.

Surely Charlie has some thoughts about birds, too?

LOL=love your title!...Sometimes when I see an awesome shot, I don't even attempt to take the photo; I try to enjoy the moment and commit it to memory...I hope you have already started celebrating your birthday weekend, Jenn=Happy Saturday and Happy Birthday at midnight!!...Kisses to handsome Charlie and many hugs to you, sweet friend...J, Calle, Halle, Sukki

So funny , the herd of elepheants noice may be a bit offputting to a little bird, Charlie a great character.

Hmm, interesting title indeed. Here, the word "pecker" can have rather juvenile connotations, slang for a certain part of male anatomy. So when I first read it, I was taken aback for a split second!

Oh, too bad you missed the bird. I've never seen a green woodpecker, probably there aren't any in our region. I'll have to Google. You do need to sneak up very quietly and very slowly, though. :-)

Happy Saturday and I hope you are planning a wonderful celebration tomorrow!

Smooches to Charlie!

You don't need to be a wonderful wildlife photographer when you've got Google!

Oh Charlie, you are so sweet.

Are you sure it was the elephants that sent the bird scampering. If I was a woodpecker, I would be very concerned about the seemingly lounging Charlie!! He is just one too cool cat!

Have a great Saturday, and hope you have great plans for your birthday weekend!

We have some green woodpeckers in the trees at the back of our house. They are very noisy! Better luck with the camera next time. I know how hard it is to capture these elusive creatures. (One more brief sighting of parakeet, but no further photo opportunities!)

LOVE the title today. lol.

I'm surprised Charlie was so mellow. There was a cardinal on our back deck yesterday, just taunting poor Buffy, who was making those excited little cat noises and swishing her tail back and forth. The cardinal, apparently understanding the concept of closed glass doors, just strutted back and forth.

Sorry to hear you missed the woodpecker - maybe he'll come back to see if the strawberries are ready.
Happy Birthday for tomorrow - the bonus being you won't see your work colleagues and have to buy them cake!!

That sounds like something I would do. Go thundering down there. But Charlie was sort of keeping track of that woodpecker. That was a great title.
You are looking terrific Charlie. And we will be back with Birthday wishes tomorrow.
Have a great day.

Birds are hard to shoot (er photograph, shooting them is actually much easier).
The quiet sneak up approach is just as likely to end in flight.
Oddly most of my decent bird photographs happen when I stop trying.
I think the birds are more trusting if you don't appear interested.
Think of it like the antelope happily grazing near the snoozing lion.

Jennifer--It drives me nuts when I don't get a picture, too! Sorry you missed your woodpecker. I hope you and Charlie still enjoyed your day. :)

I've missed many a good photo myself.

It is always the really unusual ones that get away!

Hopefully there will be a next time!
