On my way to work on Sunday morning, I came across these hanging bags:

Speaking of revealing things ....

All sorts of Decadent info may be found here.

An Equinox and a Dangled Carat

Charlie basks in the autumn Equinox
With its equal halves of day and night
Heralding the end of summer light
And beginning the hunt for his Christmas socks!
:-)
The above pic taken 22 September 2013.
And here is a very succinct explanation of an equinox!

Bloggie pals!! I shall be on a 2 day training course at work (Monday - Tuesday)  – so forgive me if I'm late visiting your blogs!

p.s. a big big SHOUT OUT to the unbelievably stunningly beautiful  (seriously - she's HOT!) Hilary Grossman and her published memoir, Dangled Carat, the story of how she  got her commitment-phobic man to put a ring on it! Yay!

Happy Autumn!

Not a cookbook!

Bloggie pals!

Beautiful and super talented Niamh Boyce of Words a Day blog debuts her wonderful book The Herbalist (published by Penguin) this year and I've read it and all I can say is "WOW"!

Imagine a literary equivalent of a Douglas Sirk film with gritty realism and plenty of heart!

Bestest of all she’s visiting me to answer my silly questions:

1) What is your favourite herb (s)? I love the scent of lemon thyme.

2) How could you do that to Carmel?! And Eliza* LOL!
I know! But it wasn’t me honestly - the characters in this book did as they pleased, all I could do was watch and weep...

*Eliza is a much loved pig.... and Carmel is my favourite character in the book!

Thank you lovely Niamh! And all the best with your guaranteed bestseller!

Thank you Old Kitty, it’s a pleasure to be here, and thank you for your kind words.

****************************************************

The Herbalist:

Set in 1930’s small town Ireland, a seemingly exotic Herbalist appears in the market square and mesmerises a headstrong and precocious 17 year old Emily. But why do the other women of the town seek his expertise so surreptitiously?

Some more fab reviews for The Herbalist here!

A gazillion trillion super stars from me and paws up from the Gumster and Charlie!

An Ouchie and a Tumbly

Bloggie friends!!

I may not be a fan of the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, but he did come out with the bestest insult I've ever heard in a long time!

He called his fellow councillors:

"Great supine protoplasmic invertebrate jellies"

Ouch!

Now here is a snapshot of our routine taken at 6 am this Monday morning!

Charlie busy eating, Gumtree busy watching Bird TV and me busy playing referee!

p.s. HUGE congratulations to penandpaints of The Write Idea blog and the publication of her utterly adorable children's story Tumbly Mouse Sneaks out of the House! It was 8 pages of utter enchantment! Thank you, Cate!

Have a great week y'all!

Home truths

Bloggie friends!

This past week, I learnt two things about myself:

1) I am really quite gullible.

Someone at work organised a night out to go bowling and sent around an email saying, “Bring socks, we’re going bowling”. And what do I do? Of course I pack my bestest pair of socks only to discover no-one else has and worse, everyone one else going knew the “bring socks” bit was a joke!

2) I’m really really quite rubbish at bowling.

When someone on your team yells “try aiming for the next lane” – you know you’re in trouble! LOL!

Charlie says: I, on the other hand, am purrfect.

(pic taken 29/09/2012 - it was sunny and warm-ish!)

A huge shout out to beautiful talented bloggie pals, Theresa Milstein and Len Lambert – their short stories are published in this anthology and you may read their stories, free for a VERY limited time only, here. Yay!!

Happy October!!!!!

Love and Hate

Hate is such a strong potent negative word isn't it? So here is a competition to channel all that rage! LOL!

"All you need to do is tell... in exactly 140 characters (including spaces and punctuation) why you hate TWITTER. Entries in the body of an email... to danny@wordswithjam.co.uk." From Words With Jam magazine (Aug.2012 edition)

Closing date 5th of September. Erm.. you win mugs! LOL!

Now love is a beautiful thing! Unconditional love even more precious and of course y'all seen the pic of John Unger cradling his 19 year old dog Schoep in Lake Superior. Schoep suffers from painful arthritis and the water's warmth helps.

Every time I stare at this shot, my emotions bubble over and I am overwhelmed with memories of my angels at the Bridge and the trauma and profound love we went through in our last months together.

Charlie says: I sleep in this heat.

Pic taken yesterday evening.

Have a great week! I shall be off line for most of this week but I shall catch up with all of you asap!

Simply The Best!

Bloggie friends!

Are y’all enjoying the Olympics – both human and feline/canine (see side bar!) of course? Me and Charlie definitely are!

I have two favourite Olympian sporting people and moments so far:

First is Niger rower Hammadou Djibo Issaka who as a wild card entry came in last in his heat in the sculls competition but he tried, really tried to cross that finishing line.

Then there’s Nur Suryani Mohamad Taibi of Malaysia, eight months pregnant, who came 34th out of 56 competitors in the women’s air rifle shooting final asking her as yet unborn daughter “to be quiet, mummy’s shooting” while she competed.

I kind of feel I’m this sort of people. I do try and give things my best. I may not win accolades or fame and fortune but I’d like to say that hey, I tried, really tried my best.

Charlie says: I try to sleep on messy bed.

Pic taken last night! Charlie is doing ok – more vet’s visits to come I’m afraid but for now, he’s doing ok.

p.s. Lovely Madeleine of Scribble and Edit is having a book launch for her debut romance novel Ultimate Sacrifice on 1 August! Go Madeleine (a short extract of her book may be found here)!!!

p.p.s. Amazing Ellen Whyte of Katz and Other Tales now has her Katz Tales series of books available at Smashwords and Barnes and Noble too! Extracts of her fab series may be found here.!!

Have a great week! I’ll be offline on 1 and 2 August, but will catch up with everyone asap!

Pity Party

Bloggie friends! It's official! I am a no-talent loser!! And will never ever be good enough! LOL!

Not like the wonderful Simon Kewin, whose beautiful story got an honourable mention in the Clarity of Night short story competition! Yay for Simon! His fab story is here and it is beautiful!

My story? Nada. Cos I knew my entry was rubbish.

When will I ever learn that I'll never be the bridesmaid let alone the bride? I guess I'll confine myself to being the erm.. porter! LOL!

Oh but thank you all so much for reading and leaving such sweet comments, thank you!

And yay Simon, fairyhedgehog, Brigid and Four Dinners aka Maximus Spittimus's Two Legs!

Charlie says: There's gold in bad poetry writing.

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Not to worry - this bit of self-indulgent pity party is but a glitch in my otherwise perky demeanour! Oh but when I wallow, I wallow! I'm a drama queen darn it! I'm an artist, albeit a rubbish one! Ok I'll stop now! LOL!

A story a day helps you work, rest and play!

Bloggie friends!! I have been a little barren in the writing of stories department when the lovely fairyhedghog introduced me to this amazing competition held by the Clarity of Night blog!

The criteria is to write a 250 word max story inspired by this pic:

My story is here.

Fairyhedgehog's wonderful story is here.

Please do get inspired and join too!!

I know mine will never win (cos it's rubbish!) but it's my first story in like 6 weeks and what is a story without readers?? Hint, hint! LOL!

Charlie says: I take shelter from the rain.

This week is so going to be a little miserable weather-wise - rain, grey, dull, rain! But I still wear my sandals and make do with very wet feet and oh so lovely pedicured nails! LOL!

Twas a poem and yes you can!

Did y’all see the big new moon?
Twas on Saturday evening not at noon!
Twas very bright and very round!
Twas high up in the skies not making a sound!

Charlie says: I have booger in my eye.

Bloggie friends – thanks to lovely Summer Ross, Womagwriter and Eliza for publicising a great opportunity to donate stories, flash, poems, photos etc towards a new e-book “New Sun Rising" - all proceeds to go to a chosen charity to assist with the earthquake relief for Japan.

If y’all interested, here is the link and all the info about this project. Go on write story, take a pic, and/or compose a poem! You know you want to!

I am deep into composing some (hopefully not so terrible) haikus for submission. So I may be scarce this week cos these little nuggets of poetry are so damned hard to get right! No rhyming!! Aaaargh!

My story has found a good home!

Yay and hoozaah Bloggie friends!!

My story “One Tenth of a Second” made it to the final anthology, 100Stories for Queensland. Hoooray!!

And I’m so happy to see Theresa Milstein, Joanne Fox and Sally Quillford there too! Yay! :-)

Ahem. I know, I know, this is probably the first and only time I’ll get a story published this year but hey! It’s for my sister and her kids in Queensland!

And besides, it’s either I blog about this or you get more bad poetry! LOL!

Charlie says: I need to be quick to get to next door!

The anthology should be out on 8 March 2011!!!! All proceeds will go to the Premier Queensland Flood Relief.

A Notebook of Moleskin

Madeleine of Scribble and Edit is giving away a lovely Moleskin Notebook and here is my entry to try and nab this for myself. Ahem.

******************************

An Ode to a Moleskin Notebook by Old Kitty

Oh moleskin notebook
I sing to thee
Let me fill your blank pages
With a word or three!
You are offered to us by the beautiful Maddie
Let me covet your silkiness and set you free!

Oh moleskin notebook
I sing to thee
Come hither not tither
Don't drive me crazy!
What say you oh saucy shiny one?
Let’s go to Costa and have some coffee.

**************************************

I think the above disqualifies me pronto!!!

If you want to win Madeleine’s very generous prize of a beautiful Moleskin Notebook, please don’t do what I've done above, but go here – there’s a snazzy form to fill in!

Charlie says: I think I can land on next door’s hallway with one leap.

Booo to Monday! :-)

Gibber me timbers!

Bloggie friends!

See that blank word doc behind Charlie? I'm hoping to fill it with gibberish over the weekend!! And not just any ol gibberish - but writerly gibberish! :-)

Will it be for Madeleine's Flowing Fonts blogfest? Or more bad poetry? Or will Charlie scupper my bestest writer-ly intentions by his determination to distract me with his utter cuteness?!?!

Watch this space bloggie, watch this space!

It's Friday!!! It's Friday!!! Notice my huge empty pint glass too? Cheers!!!
:-)

Missed!

Oh bloggie friends, I am silly!

I was all set to listen to a reading of the wonderful Brigid of Sort of Writing blog’s short story on RTE Radio 1 live for 11.15pm last night and what happens?

I torment Charlie with his string, I play Memory from Cats on youtube infinitum, I’m looking up my horoscope and clicking on the “ask the crystal ball” a yes or no question…

Next thing I know it’s 11.25 pm. The story has been read, the radio programme has changed. I miss the whole thing completely.

Brigid – I am so sorry!!

Charlie says: My head seems to be missing.

Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement for my longlisted story!! Oh well - it's now in the lap of the editorial gods and goddesses!

My blog is one year old today! Yay!

A Lightbulb moment

Bloggie friends!!!

Yesterday my brand spanking new filling fell out of my front tooth.

For a while I spoke with an involuntary whistle that caused me and my dentist much hilarity!

Luckily, it’s all fixed and no harm done.

Which came to the question of what to do with the old filling that I kept safe as evidence? ( I'm an artist and I live by different rules, darn it! LOL!)

To which my dentist replied: “Try selling it on ebay”.

Hmmm. (Does anyone else see a light bulb go ping above my head??!?!)

Charlie says: When I am through with my bath I shall go next door.

The fabulous fairyhedgehog is doing her Rabbit Hole Day tomorrow to celebrate Lewis Carroll’s birthday (27 Jan). If you’d like to join up just leave a comment on her blog here and then post something weird and odd and downright Jobberwocky on your blog on the 27th! Simples! :-)

Out of the slump and into the fire

Bloggie friends!!

1) I lost a follower yesterday – sorry (Oh it SO matters to me)!!! I blame my bad poetry!

2) I broke my writerly slump and WROTE A VERY SHORT STORY!! Yay! I hope to submit this one for the 100Stories for Queensland - and dedicate it to my sister and her kids (that’s if I submit and if it gets accepted of course!! LOL!).

3) I am calling all bloggers harbouring their inner writers to get your kitty friendly stories to this competition run by the Cats Protection League. Short stories and poems accepted. Last year’s winning entries (read here) were fantastic and I know y’all talented and creative and wonderful with words!!!

Charlie says: I interrupt your writing to watch Bird TV.

Monday. What a day! :-) xx

Through the Keyhole with Brian

The divine Ms Madeleine's Through the Keyhole blogfest's rules are:

Describe someone's living space in no more than 500 words so that we can vividly imagine the absent person. Then guess from the descriptions posted the type of who lives in a room like this?

This is my entry (it kinda very loosely follows the rules. Ahem!):

*************************************
The Garden

The first thing you will notice is the apple tree. It stands at nearly ten feet tall in the middle of sorry tufts of bits of lawn clinging around the tiny garden space.

Two sheets of wood panelling fence the back with slats broken and rotted through.

Green chicken wire encloses either side, but wind and rain and neglect have bent and misshapen them.

Rosebushes edge the borders. Their days of giving lush cream and red pink blooms are long gone. Unchecked they’ve grown gnarled and woody.

You wonder how small the garden truly is once the tree is cut.

I can tell you with certainty that a child could run from one end of the garden and back in the kitchen in 15 seconds flat.

******************************
I wrote the above with the very modern idea that a garden is so an extension of one's living space. *looks shifty and then runs away!*

Charlie says: I live here with my own palm tree and fevvers!

For a lovelier story not related to the blogfest, please do read "Trees of Life - a Christmas Story" by Brian of Brian's Home. He is one talented and amazing kitty!

Have a wispy Wednesday everyone!
17 frivolous days to Christmas!
