Home truths

Bloggie friends!

This past week, I learnt two things about myself:

1) I am really quite gullible.

Someone at work organised a night out to go bowling and sent around an email saying, “Bring socks, we’re going bowling”. And what do I do? Of course I pack my bestest pair of socks only to discover no-one else has and worse, everyone one else going knew the “bring socks” bit was a joke!

2) I’m really really quite rubbish at bowling.

When someone on your team yells “try aiming for the next lane” – you know you’re in trouble! LOL!

Charlie says: I, on the other hand, am purrfect.

(pic taken 29/09/2012 - it was sunny and warm-ish!)

A huge shout out to beautiful talented bloggie pals, Theresa Milstein and Len Lambert – their short stories are published in this anthology and you may read their stories, free for a VERY limited time only, here. Yay!!

Happy October!!!!!

Yikes! I used to bowl a lot - and when you go to some lanes, you DO bring socks because they don't have enough shoes in certain sizes. So I'd have brought my socks too! (I'm assuming you're talking about indoor bowling & not lawn bowling...?)

Natalie Aguirre said...

So excited for Theresa. And don't worry abut the bowling. It's only a game.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Kitty, what if it had rained and everyone had wet socks but YOU, because YOU brought extra? You were just planning ahead.

Mark said...

Awww that sounds a little bit mean of them. I think I would have fallen for it. I mean, bowling shoes are sweaty and smelly and I do believe there are people who will take a separate pair of socks to wear with them.

mshatch said...

what sort of bowling? Candlepin or large balls? I stink at the latter and imagine I'd be getting the same catcalls.

And of course Charlie is purrfect; he's a cat :)

Fr. Tom Fish said...

I would have brought socks, too, although I always bring mine since they're part of my fur, hehe!

Mom Julie hasn't been bowling in like forever.

Hope you had a good time :)

Oh, dear, we are not too good at bowling either. But last time we went, we had a blast dancing the Ommpa Loompa dance from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory across the lanes.

Saku said...

Of course you are perfect Charlie!

As for Mom, I guess I would gullible too because I would have thought one would wear socks to bowl. Who wants to wear used bowling shoes without socks...ewww!

P.S. I'm one of the worst bowlers ever...though I usually manage to hit the gutters on the same lane, lol!

Theresa Milstein said...

Charlie is purrfect! What a gorgeous photo!

Oh, thanks so much for mentioning Len and me, and our anthology. I love being in books with blogging buddies.

I am a terrible bowler too. I've played it on Wii, and I'm much better. It makes it that much more shocking when I flail at real bowling again.

Ellen Whyte said...

Never mind, in our opinion Charlie has the last word. And we hire you to sabotage the other bowling team!

Listen, we've got a new book out: Wildcat in Moscow. 70% off for the next 48 hours. Check it out on my blog...

Well, as long as Charlie thinks you're perfect, who CARES whether or not you can bowl.

We think you're pretty great, too, by the way, Old Kitty! :)

Livia Peterson said...

Congratulations to Theresa and Len! I'm ok at bowling but could do better. Happy October! :)

bowling is all pratice. I bowled 30s until a few weeks I was doing as good as 180.

Janet Johnson said...

Hurray for Therese and Len!

And you and I would get along great, because yeah, I would have brought the socks, too. :)

Pasha's Mommy said...

Lol, I had a friend who tried golfing once, and he said that he hit anything with that "stick" but the ball :) ... Bowling isn't any easier!

Charlie your profile is just so gorgeous! ♥

The Furries of Whisppy said...

Hahaha! Mommy has quite a number of embarrassing bowling stories which she said she's NOT telling.
You're looking good, Charlie!

Helena said...

I woulda brought socks too! Especially since rented bowling shoes are kinda stinky nasty. Maybe you should've brought Charlie just to intimidate everyone with his perfection.

Simon Kewin said...

LOL. I'd have brought socks as well!

Teresa Ashby said...

The secret to successful bowling is to take a child along, then you can ask to have bumper pads put down the edges - but don't tell anyone I told you ;-)

Must agree, Charlie is perfect x

Fuzzy Tales said...

LOL! Well, I've never bowled, so I would bring socks too. :-D

Happy October...here's to a long, sunny, warm month...at least in my dreams. :-)

Ellie Garratt said...

Congratulations to Theresa and Len!

I'm rubbish at bowling too. I never seem able to throw it in a straight line. So, you are not alone.

Hannah and Lucy said...

Charlie make the most of the sunshine it's in very short supply. Sorry we laughed at your "socks" Jenn! Take care.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

Don't worry, you're not alone, Kitty. I only tried bowling once and kept getting my fingers stuck in the holes!

Of course he's purrrrfect!

Oh that business with the socks would have made me a little bit mad. I would have done the same thing and just taken my socks.
Charlie, that is a great picture of you. You are looking good. Hope both of you have a great week.

Summer Ross said...

Happy October to you too. I'm not good at bowling either. I've only played a few times and it didn't turn out well. LOL
Have a great Monday!

Tamago said...

Hahaha...sorry to hear you were the only one who brought socks! Though, I would bring a pair if I get such message :-)
Charlie you look super cute and yes, you are purrfect!

Hooray for Theresa & Len! And aww! You fell for the joke. I would've, too, so no worries! :D

Hi Old Kitty .. it's 'terrible' we're in October already - I cannot believe ...

Charlie looks mighty fine - but I bet he's not that happy with today's weather .. very soggy and not good for the fur.

Theresa and Len's anthology entries look great - I'll be getting it on my return ..

Cheers Hilary

Maria McKenzie said...

I would have brought socks too! I've only been bowling once and don't really care to again;). Congrats to Len and Theresa!

Jennifer Shirk said...

LOL!! We should never be on a bowling team together.
Just sayin' :-)

Marilia said...

Purrrfect picture!

cleemckenzie said...

We could bowl together and remain friends. The last time I tried doing anything with that thousand pound ball it went backward and ran over the scorekeepers toes.

Charlie's right. He is purrfect.

William Kendall said...

Of course Charlie is perfect!

I tried bowling a couple of times. Was very, very unimpressed.

Angel Ginger Jasper said...

I know just how you feel re the bowling because mine always go down the gutter lol.Sorry but the sock thing made us smile. Congrats to your friends with the stories.. Hugs GJ and Carol xx

Charlie IS purrfect :)
I'm a lousy bowler, too. But I like it anyway.

LynNerdKelley said...

Congrats to Theresa and your other bloggie friend on their publications in the anthology. I'll go read them as soon as I leave this comment.

I'm gullible, too. I would have brought socks. I mean aren't you supposed to wear socks with bowling shoes? I'm terrible at bowling, too. Not my sport, but I still have fun!

Unknown said...

I'm pretty gullible too, but I hope you had fun bowling.

Glad you enjoyed the post about Spangles the cross-eyed cat! He sure is adorable!

Not to worry, Old Kitty/Jennifer. I would have taken socks, too, had I heard that same invite.

That Charlie; he's looking mighty fine in the sunshine!

Hi Old Kitty,
Yes, it's me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star!
My human recommends, also, that you let go of the bowling ball and not leave your paws in the ball :)
Of course, our Canadian friend Jemi, might have suggested you go over to Canada and try five pin bowling. It's almost like playing with marbles.
Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses to you and the lovable Charlie, Penny xx

Oof, I guess this is an example of when it's ok to be too paranoid. I would have Google something like "bowling socks" just to make sure this isn't some kind of joke.

(Ok, I'd actually be Googling to see what socks to wear but lets pretend I'm cleverer than that.)

I'm horrible at bowling.

Congrats to Theresa and Len.

Congrats to Theresa Milstein and Len Lambert.
Don't worry about being rubbish at bowling. I bet the others have had lots of practice AND you probably were the best dressed in your lovely socks! Charlie thinks so too.

PK HREZO said...

And a very happy October to you!

I totally would've fallen for the sock thing too. After all, it is bowling and you do need socks. Maybe not the best pair, but sock nonetheless! :D

Soggibottom said...

ha ha maybe it was a special bowling term that only people who go bowling know about... :-) I only ever went bowling with Fred and Barney :-) don't think they wore socks either ... live and learn... I would have taken my new one's too. Ah, Charlie ol bean I can see your no one's fool, sit in the sun and know your socks are clean. Luvs xxxxx

Gotta love Len and Theresa!

Ummm, no one else wore socks? That is really gross! I'm glad you took your own. When I'm rolling gutter balls I always turn around and ask everyone what is the objective of this game...

Well done on bringing socks!

Hilary said...

I would have brought socks too!

wildcatwoods said...

Lovely shot of Charlie - I am actually not bad at bowling. I was on the team in high school!

Jayne said...

But what if people turned up in flip-flops? How would they then wear their bowling shoes - barefoot? Eugh. I think 'bring socks' is wise advice and would also have definitely packed a pair, just in case. :)

Congrats to those in the anthology!

People need to say what they mean and mean what they say. I would have done the same and my ball has ended in the next lane. YIKES!!!!

Thanks for visiting my guest post and commenting today. A smile crossed my face when I saw your comment.

Old Kitty - I would've done the same thing. LOL. I stink at bowling too, but it's fun once in a while.

I love bowling but never bowl. I really need to take the fam out for Bowling Night sometime soon.

And I agree Charlie is Purrfect!

fairyhedgehog said...

Well I think your coworkers are just mean. I'd have taken socks with me too.

Golden Eagle said...

I'm sure I would have ended up bringing socks, too. It can be awfully hard to tell when people are serious and when they aren't sometimes. :P

Congratulations to Len and Theresa!

I can relate. As a writer, I don't like to waste words. If someone said bring socks, I'd bring socks. Sheesh! I'm horrible at bowling as well; those balls are so heavy and those pins are so far away.

Katie Isabella said...

I'm with Tom the Church Cat..my socks would have been along and mine are part of my fur too. Heeeee.

You look glorious and beautiful out there Charlie.

Everycat said...

Those bowling balls are far to big for cats to chase so we don't think bowling makes sense.

Charlie, you are perfect!

Thank you so much for your kind comments to us on the loss of our Oliver, we miss him so much.
