A Palate's Paradise

I learned a valuable lesson today bloggie friends!

I learned that a cake will always taste better with a topping.

For months now I baked my courgette cake sans the topping of the recipe (cos I was so concerned about the calories!) and whereas I liked the cake, none of my friends or family did.

So this time round I succumbed and made the topping – cream cheese, sugar and a bit of lemon.

And by golly the cake tastes incredible! Like paradise on my palate!

Of course there’s a life lesson here to be had for me. But I’m too busy wiping the cream off my hands and mouth to think about it too much!

Charlie says: I doubt very much that there'd be any leftover cream for me!

Have a tolerable Monday everyone!!

Thanks to Em's Shabby Shack for her fab courgette recipe, found here!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SAMMY AND ANDY'S MUM, THE LOVELY JUDI!! YAY!!

WOW--it's Monday already there!! In the future you are. Hey, that cake---Tommy's brought some of that home. It's BETTER with the cream topping. Calories--schmalories--this is CAKE!!

If I were Charlie, I'd be hissed off, with no cream...

I have never heard of this kind of cake before but it sure does look delicious! I agree that a little bit of sugar on top makes for a tasty cake!
Thank you for your comments regarding Ellie (who wears a muzzle) and for your concern. It is a tough thing to see her sad face when that darn thing is covering up her pretty mouth and it was also awful to spend so much time cleaning up all of the blood! Extremely upsetting!

Now that makes me hungry...yummy!

I'm with you on frosting, especially cream cheese.

I had the best cake in New York. It was the first one I ever loved that didn't have a topping. I want to make it but I need to have 5 extracts.

You have a tolerable Monday too! It's back to the grind after a too-short holiday.

that looks delicious!!! Please pardon my stupidity but what is a "courgette" cake?

I am like you where I tend to sometimes not like frosting on my cake...I like it either way but would leave it off for the calories too...your frosting sounds delicious though!

Did Charlie end up getting any?

Awwww Sweet Charlie, you can come have cream with us whenever you wants!
We's on a diet for the New Year, we'll have cream next week once all the revolutshuns are shot down.

Thanks for the recipe! I decided when I was dieting not to cut out the cake (not even the icing) I just ate smaller pieces. Less guilt!

Charlie probably wouldn't like the cake anyway - unless it was fish flavored - in which case no one else would like it.

It looks delicious, especially the frosting so thick and kinda dripping off the side...

Yum, I had to look up courgette, we call this zucchini, but it does make a fabulous cake. I'd probably attempt to do without the topping too.

Icing makes anything delicious!

You know, I'm quite fond of cakes without toppings. Not because of the calories, but because I think some of them just taste better plain. Not all of them, though. ;-)

Kitty! Cake is just an excuse for frosting.

Yum! The icing is always my favorite part. And anything with lemon flavor is better. (Okay, maybe not anything...)

Gosh, that cake looks so good especially with that cream cheese lemon frosting. Yikes, I might have to make one of those. You got me sitting here drooling. Take care and have a good week. Charlie make her give you some of that cream. A tiny little bit won't hurt you.

Courgette cake?? I've only just got my head round the notion of putting carrots in confectionery!! Your cake looks lovely though - especially the top part. No wonder Charlie's miffed :-)
Thanks for your visit, and your lovely comments - and hoping for a brill 2011 for you and Charlie too!Best

O.K.,
That is a valuable lesson! Also, make sure you apply a very THICK layer! Nice picture--now I'm craving some.

Oh, & the touch of lemon does give you some natural vitamin C so it's all good.

Charlie, I'm sure you'll get a treat anyway.

That icing looks too good! And I'll bet the cake tastes even better with icing on the bottom, and sides, and in the middle...

Mmmmmmm. That cake sounds good. Didn't Charlie even get a drop? No, probably not because of the sugar. sigh. Is Charlie drooling?

Oh, Jenny-you CAN'T SKIP THE FROSTING! In fact I'd go so far as to say if you want to skim, skip the CAKE. I loves a bowl of frosting now and again...
