The Prisoner

Charlie here.

First the silly human takes me to a place reeking of hospital smell.

Then another human in a white coat sticks things in me!

Even when I puff up and scream this evil human continues to jab me with sharp things!

I am so incensed I am showing my fangs and claws and doing my best “touch me and I will not be responsible for the consequences” growl!

But this nasty human does not stop with sticking things in me! They HURT!

Now I am being kept prisoner against my will.

I would very much like to protest at my forced confinement.

Please make this silly human open the front door so I may at least go next door! Thank you.

I say: LET ME OUT!!

NOW!!!

Bloggie friends!! Charlie’s been diagnosed with what the vets think is pharyngitis. Oh dear! :-(

His throat is sore and inflamed. Awwww poor little thing!!!

So he is on meds and has to be kept indoors - hence his protest! We shall return to the vets on Thursday for a further check. Hopefully it'll be good news!!

Thank you my wonderful bloggie friends for sending him your kind thoughts and best wishes!

Have a Wizard of Oz Wednesday everyone!

Poor Charlie! No one likes being poked with needles. Of course, I might like confinement if I had a good book with me, but that can't be expected of a cat-of-action. Oh well, at least Charlie looks beautiful when angry . . .
Hope our friend gets better soon!

Poor charlie- I hate it when I'm confined to my bed..so I could imagine your dislike of being held indoors.
Good luck getting better!

I confess that I've never heard of a cat contracting pharyngitis but I have heard of human's contracting the virus so of course I know exactly what the symptoms are. The advice that I have for Charlie is to listen to your mom and stay indoors and take your meds until you feel better again!

Sorry, Charlie! We can't explain the things we do that are good for cats in the long run when they don't seem good at the time.

I'm glad the diagnosis isn't too bad.

Get well soon, Charlie. In the meantime, there's a game my cat friends like to play when they're inside. It's called Tear Up Everything You Can Get Your Hands On. Hopefully that will keep you entertained most of the time.

Dear Old Kitty,
This bloggy thing and computers. Modern Marvels! You and your cat are across a body of water that it once took me 7 days to cross by ship. I've only seen pictures of Charlie but yet how can I care so much that he's incarcerated and unhappy and hurting from needles and how heartsick you must be. There's something wonderful about humans and their genuine ability to reach out and care about others because I know all your bloggy followers are feeling as I do now.
Thank you for writing the post and keeping us informed. May Charlie be home in his own bed very soon.

Poor Charlie!

I just Googled this and apparently it's related to gingivitis and stomatitis...stomatitis is quite serious, actually. Knew of a cat with it, though he was fine after all his teeth were removed.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8421885

Feline gingivitis-stomatitis-pharyngitis.

Diehl K, Rosychuk RA.

Department of Clinical Sciences, Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Fort Collins.
Abstract

Inflammatory conditions of the feline mouth are commonly encountered in small animal practice. Although the majority can be attributed to dental disease and a small percentage are due to autoimmune diseases, the eosinophilic granuloma complex, neoplasia, and other miscellaneous syndromes, many cases appear to be due to a gingivitis-stomatitis-pharyngitis complex, which is likely multifactorial in origin. Viruses, bacterial infection, diet, dental disease, oral conformation, genetic predisposition, hypersensitivities, immunoinsufficiencies, and other defects in oral defense mechanisms may all be contributory. The complexities of this syndrome have made it one of the most challenging diagnostic and therapeutic problems in feline medicine.

My suggestion would be to research this, Jennifer, and find out what you can, so that you can go armed with plenty of info to make informed decisions. NOT saying you don't...only mentioning this because I know we have to advocate for our fur companions and for ourselves, because vets (and doctors) certainly don't know everything and often make mistakes. Very often make mistakes.

Big kitty kisses to Charlie and hugs to you. Lots of purrs and healing Light from us all!

We are sending gentle purrs to ease your sore throat.
If you are kept inside the best thing to do to occupy yourself is a little house trashing so your mum has some clearing up to do when she crawls in from her work - which is so unimportant compared to the nrsing duties she should have been doing all day!
Remember on your next v-e-t visit do not have a wee all day but wait until you are on the torture table and then let it flow - watch how their feet jump backwards - such fun!!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

Oh no ...poor Charlie! I hope the meds help him heal quickly, poor chap! Perhaps a nice hot water bottle placed inside a blanket and pout where he sleeps would help him feel drowsy and not miss the outdoors as much? If not can you pry off the drain cover and bring it inside for him to lay on?
