Let's get Physics

Ok bloggie friends, I’ve done it again. I’ve just waved goodbye to another very short story and given it to a competition.

This time I even paid to enter. I know I won’t win so I’m also saying bye bye to the entrance fee.

The worst of it is that the monies came out of my er.. "pair of shoes money". Sigh.

That brings me to a conundrum.

Why if I am a dainty size 5 when wearing heels do I need to go a size and a half bigger when I am wearing flats?

To the right is my gorgeous size 5 Steve Maddens. To the left is my cute red pair of flats, size 6 and ½. It’s just not physics is it?

Charlie says: So long as my treats and nip money are safe.

Have a wah-hey Wednesday everyone!

We are sending tons of purrs and hugs to sweet Stella of Amy and the House of Cats! Please get better little one!

Isn't that a bit like 'why am I a size twelve in this *brand* of jeans but only a size 10 in that *brand*? I know which brand I like better (grins). A good fit is what counts :-)

Good luck on the competition. I only have three pairs of shoes and they are all different sizes.

Good question....I wonder if your feet need more space when wearing flats? I am not so good with physics but that's my best guess!

Mom says "cute shoes"! (she says she has to go up 1/2 a size in those pointy toes ones)

Hi Charlie
Oh my dear you look so handsome, and aren't you glad we don't have to wear shoes?

That's a big difference in shoe sizes!! I don't wear heels (too many foot issues!) so I don't know if I'm the same size or not!

Good luck with the competition!

"I won't win?" What kind of attitude is that, Missy?

And I wear a size 11 at all times, so can't help you there.

I love both of those shoes. You have such tiny feet! Unless 5's in the UK are bigger than in the US.

Sacrificing shoes for entry fees. You are selfless.

Good luck with the short story competition. I hope you win!

Oh gosh, why is that? I don't know.

I think the cat is smarter than any of us anyway--catnip is where it's at. ;)-

Wishing you luck in the contest.

Do you know what's sad, I have no idea what say! I only wear flats and so I'm not sure the difference. However, I'm normally between five and six myself.

I hope you do well in the competition.

Don't know how to explain the shoe size difference! I know I wear 5 or 5 1/2 in sandals and 6 in closed toe shoes - maybe your feet just spreads out and relaxes in flats! Luv ya Charlie! Good luck on the story!

Love both pairs of shoes! Can't explain the size discrepancy - the force of gravity?

Good luck with the comp and well done for having faith in your work to enter. As they say, you've got to be in it to win it!

Good Luck with the competition!

I don't understand that with the shoes. I have to get a size bigger for width, but that's a different matter.

Congratulations on submitting your story!

Shoes. Aggh. I'm 5ft and have tiny feet. Not just small, I mean really tiny. Heels or flats are generally a 3, but trainers are a 4. Weird isn't it? What's the difference?

Interesting. I wear a size 5.5 for both flats and heels, but with heels, I sometimes wear a 6 if I do not get my size and I like the shoe very much and it becomes a 'must lust'.

As a not so dainty size 8 I wish I had these problems! :)

Good luck in the competition! Give yourself a pat on the back for submitting to it!

The shoes...hmmm. Well, I don't wear heels, so I can't answer that. Most of my shoes are size 6.5 Winter boots usually a 7 to accommodate 2 pairs of thick socks. :-P

Maybe it's just the difference between shoe manufacturers? As it often is with clothes?

I wasn't finished, but somehow managed to hit publish. LOL.

The cats wanted to add that they, of course, side with Charlie and say that the nip and treat fund had *better* be safe indeed!

Good luck with your story we hope it is published. We see Charlie is worried about his treat money!
The thing mum wants to know is why do shoes that feel comfy in the shop hurt when you get them home.

Good luck in the contest....we are hoping you win enough money to buy lotza shoes!!!!!!

Shoe sizes depend on who makes them, it seems.

Lookin' good there, dear Charlie.

Purrsonally I can lay in any size shoe! Hey, it isn't an entrance fee...it's an experience opportunity, tell her Charlie!

Good luck on the contest. Let's keep positive thoughts, shall we?

That shoe question is going to keep me busy all day!

Rene said...

We guess it's because your feet splay out more when they are flat?

We don't know. We can't even figure out clothing here. We're glad we only wear fur.

I also sent a short story off yesterday, Kitty! And I paid too - wonder if we went for the same one?! The one I submitted to has a whole six months to wait before they reveal who won - six months! *flails*

i'm sure it's money well spent! good luck with the contest- think positive will you?? I want to make some kind of pun about 'having bigger shoes to fill' but I'm just not that talented. lol.

Best wishes with the competition!

Do you really need new shoe money with those lovely shoes that fit and look in top shape?

I have a feeling the Madden shoes are American sizes...or the other way around...I know the UK and the American sizes are different. Aren't they? Now I'm questioning myself...Charlie, do you know?

Hart Johnson said...

Those heels have TWO adaptations for foot size that they flats don't. If I were guessing, I'd bet you have a (relatively speaking) slender food with longer toes... open toes can peek out a little. And then the STRAP rather than enclosed back ALSO has some give. I am an 8 1/2 in a sandal but a 9 in an enclosed shoe BUT I don't have long thin feet--I think my friend who wears a 9 sandal wears a 10 flat and she could basically play piano with her toes.

Hi Old Kitty,
LOL! Charlie is a smart kitty cat, that's for sure ;)
Regarding the size of your shoes, I am a 6.5 in regular shoes but I could be a 7 depending on the style. It could also be that you're retaining water, don't you think? hmmm, not sure if it's physics. ;)
Regarding the competition, please don't think that you wasted your money. I think is money well spent. Autumn is the season for contests so I would advice you to enter as many as you can (the freebies first of course!)
Good luck with your story!

I think it is because the people who are selling you the lovely high heeled shoes, want to flatter you a bit. I am jealous by the way, I can't wear heels! (Probably a good thing, I would fall and break something...smile)

Why do you know you won't win?? I think all of us sometimes need to believe in ourselves a bit more (even if experience tells us otherwise!). I am, of course, just like you and have already said to freinds that I won't manage to get a stall at a local popular craft fair, so I'm a fine one to talk. I never understand shoe sizing or clothes sizing and never buy mail-order because I want to try things on. Both your shoes look good though - wish I could wear heels! xx
