When in Rome...

Bloggie friends, I’m silly.

Yes I am!

Here I am writing as a 10 year old boy and I pepper his point of view with words like “horrible fascination” and “ seamlessly with a feral-like crowd”….

What am I simple?!?! LOL! What 10 year old speaks like that in this day and age?

Maybe I just need breakfast with Ginger:

Charlie says: Be so kind as to let me out so I can go next door. Thank you.

Have a miraculous Monday everyone!

What a sweet Golden! You certainly couldn't get a cat to do that. LOL.

I admit I don't know what 10 year old boys say today. Back in my day, conversation was peppered with a lot of "like" and "you know," with a few other words in between. :-)

Big smooches to Charlie, as always. Perhaps he's making good his escape now, lest he be cajoled into "Breakfast at Jennifer's," to be broadcast on YouTube tomorrow.

LOL, I just went to see Vampires Suck. It was a full house of 14-18 year olds (except 44 year old me). The dialogue was a lot of fun to listen to...I recommend you go to your local skateboard park with a pen and paper....

Hugs to Charlie!

Lovely video. Please don’t tell Charlie that I said so. I know that it makes him dogmatic.

All the best, Boonie

Doesn't sound too much like my 10 year old daughter either! But hey - it depends on your character. If he's a boy genius with plans to control the world that sounds about right ...

Charlie, you're welcome to come here.

I'm sure some nerdy 10 year olds talk like that. Is your character nerdy? Of your I don't mean YOUR character, I meant your character. Oh well, you know what I meant- right?

Also, thank you for dropping by my blog at sherkhan's suggestion (lol). I actually installed something in Sher's blog that did not work, so I made a fool of myself completely. Haha, thanks for NOT pointing that out. Lol!

That cracked me up! I do think it's important to get the words down though. You can always polish the voice later!

Ginger is so funny! What a great video!

I thought you were having breakfast with my Ginger then! Hee - maybe there are some ten year olds that say such things? What era are you writing in? And is it an alternate reality?!

I did the same with my main character, who is rather elderly when we first meet her. She spoke just like me! Which was all wrong. Luckily now she sounds like herself. I think. :)

That is one funny video. Great breakfast one. I sure don't have any idea what 10 year olds talk like. I think they mainly play all those crazy games.
Hi Charlie. You better stay home and keep Mom company, she is losing it a little, trying to talk like a ten year old. Have a great week.

That's one reason I really prefer writing YA than middle grade or younger - it's so hard for me to use only words/phrases someone that age would use.

I hope Charlie got to go out!

Don't 10 year olds just grunt if anyone over the age of 20 addresses them - they can't lift their eyes from the game they're playing to hold a conversation . Having said that I watched your Brakfast with Ginger twice and I'll be back again - it was so funny.

I will be grinning all day over that one, thanks I needed a smile. As for your 10 year old, some of them are pretty precocious these days, make him a book worm and you are covered.

Hysterical. I love that video.

Oh, I loved this movie. I bet Ginger enjoyed doing it just as much we liked watching it too. What did Charlie think? (Actually I don't need to ask that, the picture says it all!)

I forget their vocabulary myself sometimes, so I feel your pain. :o) I guess that's what revision is for, right? LOL!

Have a miraculous Monday too, Jenn!

I will say I like "horrible fascination" and "seamlessly with feral-like crowd", especially the last one. When I wrote my Jordan Walsh manuscript (Remember that train wreck beginning?) the poor boy just thought and thought and thought, and his thoughts were whiny and not much like a thirteen-year-old boy.

At least you get it now - not simple at all.

You've got to use that "real-like crowd" somewhere.

Hi to Charlie!

I love those phrases but yeah, you might have to rethink the 10-year-old boy, depending on the character! Or maybe raise his age?
