Bloggie friends, I’m beginning to obsess about the most ridiculous things.
Here is something I noticed as I watch telly during my break from my chapter 9-ing.
The scene: The person needs to take their medication. So they fill up a glass of water, take their pills, sip the water, and throw the rest of the water out.
No-one but no-one ever finishes their glass of water.
All programmes/films/tv series have this scene. The rest of the water in the glass always gets thrown.
I kid you not.
Charlie says: Mad woman alert. Mad woman alert. Must. Run. Next. Door. Quick.
Have a great weekend everyone!!

I've never noticed this. Now I'll be on the look-out, whether I want to be or not. Ha.
You're making me think about my own habits--I don't typically throw out part of a glass of water, I just put it back in the fridge. Even in a country where we have an abundance of water and take it for granted.
Good luck with chapter 9. And as always, big smooches to adorable Charlie!
Omigosh you and Charlie are so cute and funny. That Chapter 9 must be really something, hope you finish this weekend! (I've never noticed that about the water.)
Jen just looked at Charlie and said, "That's a neat cat." All white body, and a black tail! He IS one of a kind.
So are you and Jen!! You could definitely swap obsessions. Jen has a lot of those!!!
Have a great Saturday.
Ann
I never really noticed this, but it's true with some TV shows and movies. Having said that, I don't think you should freak out about putting it in your scene. That just makes you media savvy :)
Seriously, if it's right for the character and the scene, throw that water out. At the end of the day, Charlie will still love you.
My wife notices stuff like that.
I'm a bad medicine taker and need at least the whole mug of water to wash the pill down.
You must get out more often. Srsly! Television will rot your brain...
Run Charlie, run!
First!
I only pour a little bit of water in a glass to take my tablets in the morning...Then I leave the glass on the counter for later. I don't know if that helps, but that's what do. :)
That's such a funny thing to notice! I don't throw my water out unless I feel it's been "tainted" by the pill (like when I have to take a huge horse pill for some reason and I choke as I'm trying to swallow). Hmm. That's actually an interesting bit of psychology...
MOL!!...Funny photo of Charlie running for cover :)...Good luck with Chapter 9, Jenn and have a fun weekend with your silly, sweet boy!...xoxo...J, Calle, Halle, Sukki
LOL! Ugh... Jennifer, I always drink my water gone cause I know how good water is for me! ;) (If there is any water left over, I put it in the dog dish or plants--I don't like wasting!!!)
Your lightning quick reaction to discarding glasses of water is quite normal for a hydro-electric personality. Oh Dam! Now I’ve let the cat out of the bag (please ask Charlie’s forgiveness for my use of that expression).
I love the photo of Charlie running. He’s going so fast that he looks to have been catapulted.
Thanks for another lovely post.
Take care.
All the best, Boonsong
Thats funny, it must be cause you are writing and details are important to us writers.
I was watching the lovely bones movie last night and a whole scene involved the murderers garden and dead roses and I thought, that is not right, a real gardener would dead head his roses before summer ends.
If it's right before bed, I do throw the water out. I'm also more likely to dump out tap water.
If it's a drug with sugar-coated pills, like Advil, then I take them without water at all. Those are easy to slip down.
Will have to look out for that :-)
Its all in the telling details - guess your writer brain was still switched on! Its also a true observation. I throw it out too -just as I've been subtly programmed to do after all the years of telly watching....
Look at Charlie go!
I haven't thought of this before, but you're right. Love it.
Why don't they pour less? Why waste all that water? Isn't there a plant or a cat's bowl to dump the rest?
Don't even get me started on when people drive on television. Are they even watching the road?
Hope you have a breakthrough with chapter 9.
I have never noticed the throwing away of water on screen. I don't often throw water away only if I've left it a while and it's gone tepid probably as I use a filter jug in the fridge as I think our water has a taste sometimes which I don't like. I will now be obsessed with water watching on TV.
Charlie did you chase after a sexy lady cat strutting her stuff?
I never throw my water out. I can take pills just fine, but I like to make SURE it gets down my stomach. I'll drink 14 oz of water to one tiny pill. :D
Interesting observation. I will be on the lookout now :).
This chapter 9 is taking quite a while, isn't it!?
This happens in films and TV shows all the time.
People leave their drinks — up to and including beer, wine and spirits.
If I'm ever resurrected as a transdimensional media haunt like Gene Hunt, remind me to pick up plenty of buckets.
I think I do that - although I usually only pour a little bit of water to start with - but to notice that in TV programmes.....of course you'll never ever be able to stop noticing it now! xx
Have a nice weekend too!
I suppose they do that because it would take too long for them to finish drinking it on film (lose the story momentum), but is there any reason why they have to throw it out, rather than just setting the glass on the counter?
Good observation!
Our house must be weird, our humans always drink all of their water! Hey Charlie, come on back, it will be OK!!!
erm... I drink my water... pretty much always. I finish the water in the glass. I am sort of freaky about water though. I bet I drink a half gallon a day minimum.
Probably they wouldn't put me in a movie or a books though. I'm not believable.
Poor Charlie :-(
I hope you get away from the mad woman in time, Charlie! :)
ok, that's hilarious because I've noticed the same thing. Because who doesn't finish their water??? I also noticed that beds and tables on screen are always tiny. Ridiculous tiny.
Strange the things we notice.
I always finish my glass of water. Good thing I'm not being filmed eh?
You certainly are very observant. That does seem a little silly to throw the water away, it isn't like it won't keep until the next scene.
Charlie, Charlie come back. She will get straight in a little while.
Have a spectacular day.
I finish full glass of water (everytime!) with my meds!!!!!!!
:)
Run Charlie run!! To Jenn of course!
Hugs to you and Charlie!!!
P:S: Now that you mentioned the "scene", will be on look-out too like Kea!
Run, Charlie, run! AS fast as you can! :)
You're very observant, Old Kitty! I don't think I've ever noticed that.
Have you noticed how nobody says goodbye after a phonecall on the TV or in films?!
Interesting point. I guess there are some people who do drink it if they're really thirsty -- or have LOTS of pills! :)
That's a cute pic of Charlie as he looks like he's crossing the finish line!
neither half full nor half empty, just twice the damn size for its contents! :P lol
I have noticed that as well and I don't know why people won't just put the amount of water they need in the glass instead of overfilling it! Good observations!
