A Wag of a Tale

This is a tale of Tilly
A dog so cute and silly
She ran up to me, a face full of glee
So I stopped in mid-stride
But Tilly then dived
Straight on the busy road
My heart set to implode.

I screamed “Oh please stop!”
As cars screeched and honked
Yet Tilly ran onwards
Like a furry fuzzy blizzard
Until a kind man with longer legs
Overtook her and grabbed her.

Dragged her towards me
He yelled, “Where’s the leash for your doggie!?”
I said, “That’s not my doggie!”
But Tilly’s tail wagged as I read out her tags.

“She’s called Tilly” I say and dictated her phone number
The man took his smart phone, rang and got an answer
And soon Tilly’s owner appeared, breathless and shaking
“I didn’t know she’d fled us” she said tears falling, hands trembling

So there ends our tale
Of adventurous silly Tilly
She gave us all a fright but was such a delight!

*********************

{The above happened yesterday at around noon – I was on my way to the shops when this gorgeous schnauzer – looking like Benny from the World of Hansel - came bounding towards me then tried to do a kamikaze}!

Alls well that ends well!

Charlie says: Tilly, it is much better to just lie around

I'm glad Tilly made it across the road without getting hurt, and that she was caught so her owner could be called! That must have been nerve-wracking to watch.

I think Charlie has the right idea, "sometimes it is just better to lie around" Leave it to a woofie to do something so foolhardy!

Well done on a heroic rescue !! Lucky Tilly that you were around - I think Charlie's got the right idea, since busy roads and four legged furries so often don't mix well :-)
Take care and enjoy the coming week!

We bet Tilly's owner had such a scare when the man called her to say you had her at the side of a road. Thank goodness for you and the man who called to let her family know.

I agree with Charlie. Cats are most wise and we would do well to follow their lead.

What a great way to celebrate this drama with a happy ending. My heart always stops whenever an animal runs out onto the road.

Kitty, From the comment you left on my blog today, I think you were confused by my post. Guardian Cats has a real live print book. The 'link to buy' is there in the post. I hope others are confused as well.

Have a good day, or evening.

I hate when dogs do that. It's such a horrible thing to see dead animals on the side of the road. Funny poem though.

So glad Tilly had a second chance! Yay for dog collars with phone numbers on them. I'm sure Charlie is way too smart to run into traffic like Tilly did :)
