Trolley Dolly

Bloggie friends!

I was accosted by the rudest sales lady in my beloved grocer’s shop! Oh the horror!

She was trying to get shoppers to register for the shop's self-checkout system.

When I very very politely declined to register, the woman then barked, “Oh so you’d much rather waste time queuing at a checkout till? Do you have any idea oh inefficient that is?”

I replied, “Yes, of course I do,” and walked off in the wake of other shoppers who stopped and stared.

I felt as if a shopping trolley just ran me down deliberately!

I’m trying to forgive her as I know she was only doing her job but why do so with such aggressiveness? And why ruin my shopping experience like so when I was really nice to her too? :-(

Charlie says: I am either most appalled or just really sleepy! Or both!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

With self check-outs and check-ins, pretty soon human contact won't be necessary at all.

I'm so sorry to hear about the rude lady. She could have demonstrated a little more customer service, IMO. Love the pic of the kitty. :-)

Oh dear that was NOT nice at all.
We do not understand rude behavior at all.
Can you shop elsewhere?

Very rude indeed. A lot of our stores have self-checkouts, and many people use them, but I hate them. I'm never fast enough or organized enough for the Loblaws grocery store computer and "she's" terribly insistent. It's embarrassing. Besides, I don't like to pay increasing prices for decreasing service. I expect full service, thank you.

I bet her manager wouldn't have liked that. I hate the self check out.

Hi Old Kitty,
I'm shocked, appalled and disappointed by such outrageous behaviour displayed by that sales lady.
I know when I'm in similar situations and sadly, I have been, I seem to have this ability to charm them into realising that their behaviour is unacceptable and inappropriate. Or if that fails, I might say to someone like her, that the self-serve check-outs are taking jobs away from workers and once she's registered enough folks, she might be visiting the dole office.
And you know what I'd be tempted to do with a shopping trolley....
Take care and please keep smiling :)

How rude! I would think that encouraging people to use the new technology might work better than bullying or putting people on the defensive. Sounds like the wrong person for the job!

Most appalled... I can't believe she was such a meanie. If only she knew she'd just been rude to a VERY FAMOUS person... in my world and many others. xoxo

That was just rude! You should've winged some fruit at her. She wouldn't act so tough covered in grapes.
I think Charlie is OUT.

Katnip Lounge said...

Well. That was just mean.

And mean people suck.

Its hard when you know they are only trying to do their Job, but honestly there is a right and wrong way to behave and talk with people.

Love that title. An experience like that can be so demeaning. I had a similar circumstance with an extremely young male bank teller. It's disturbing, for sure.

Oh what a patronising lady!

I always choose the tills over self-checkout, prefering to deal with a real person rather than a machine. And when I see people in the self-checkout queue they are usually having so many problems with the machines that staff have to go and help them anyway!

yeah, the hard sell is something I try to avoid when I can.

How rude! Good for you for walking off like that.

I'm sure Charlie is appalled at his beloved slave* being treated so badly. I know I am.

*(However much they love us, I'm sure they think of us as slaves.)

Is Charlie is hiding his face in case he's banned from the grocers too?! Why we wonder do you have to sign up for the self service checkout. I thought the idea of shops was to provide a service. I won't use our Tesco one because you have to scan your items through and leave them to the other side of the scanner until you've finished and then pay and then pack your stuff up. It seems much quicker to have it scanned for you and pack as the cashier puts them through.
Of course these "bright ideas" are often thought up by men!!

It sounds like she must have had a bad day, but WOW, not the best sales strategy!

That was very rude of that Lady. I don't like those self check out deals at all. They always break and then someone has to come help you anyway. Good for you telling that lady.
Charlie, you do look sleepy. Mom did the right thing.

Geez - that lady needs to chill. If you want to stand in line, that should be up to you. sigh.... We agree with Charlie - take a nap. :)

Old Kitty, that woman was plain rude. Self-checkout should not be a bullying proposition.

We have a drugstore called CVS that is trying to be self-checkout only. I've been frustrated so many times that I've stopped shopping there.

Sometimes it's not a bother to wait in line, especially if you have a book.

sorry you were accosted:(

I dislike the self-checkout systems. They've got them in one of the grocery stores I'll go to. I always avoid them.

Send Charlie after the rude lady!

Talli Roland said...

Oh, that's horrible. I've had some bad bad BAD experiences at those self-check-outs, I tell you!

Angel Ginger Jasper said...

I always think that the more that use the self checkout then the more people dont have a job on the normal one's and there is no excuse for rudeness. Charlie you are so cute.. Hugs GJ xx

Jemi Fraser said...

Yikes!! That's awful! She's going to turn people away from the store, never mind the system. Hope the boss overheard!

That kind of sales pitch does not bode well for the store. Sad.

Want me to go and sort her out... I have large paws.... luves Frankie de tabby :-)xxx

Beth Zimmerman said...

That's horrid! They have those self-check outs here too. No one likes them!

Eliza said...

How rude :-( I hope she behaves herself next time you visit the shop, that's if you visit again?

Lydia Kang said...

Just ignore her. She has issues, as they say.

Take the high road and the regular check out line, my dear.

Len Lambert said...

Oh, Kitty. So sorry to hear about this. That's not nice and I agree! I have similar experiences - yes, it's plural! Not one but a few. I think some people forget themselves at times and get too carried away with what they are doing, or perhaps under too much pressure? Not making excuses for the nasty woman though. Just trying to understand what's behind the bad behaviour.

Hope it doesn't ruin your day! Smile, Kitty!!! :)

Mr Puddy said...

If mom were you, she think she will ignore because that's girl is just someone, not mom's love one and not her friends. No point to pay attention to her.
But if she treats you that way every times you go there, You may need to change where you do shopping.

I hate it when that happens!!! And I'm SO SORRY it happened to you. :o( ((hugs))

don't let some obnoxious cow spoil your day. You're a dear~
