It's like when a book on Amazon for eg, gets rave reviews then starts getting bad ones and you realise not everyone will like this particular book. Then again sometimes some negative things are best left unsaid!

Reviews are such a mixed bag; there's honesty, there's friends-as-reviews, and there's just meanness.

You got that right! Charlie is like Popeye "I am what I am and that's ALL that I am!" Charlie doesn't have to answer to ANYONE for how he is, that is what makes us unique, we all have our issues!
My Bobo was the same way. He was BEYOND affectionate to those he liked, others, not so much! I loved that he was selective.
Our Sheltie is also quite selective. He won't allow everyone to pet him. Once he knows you and likes you yes, he is more aloof.
People say rude things about him not being friendly (and they did with Bobo too)
All that matters is that they love US!

Ah, well... cats are that way: aloof, mysterious, non-chalant. But that's why we love them. Dog peeps just don't understand our cats. :)
Maybe Charlie simply has good taste and would prefer not to associate with said neighbour. :-)

Charlie, you just be you, we love you that way! Hey, I think a lot of the negative reviews are posted by competitors...I've notices several negative reviews are worded almost the same.

I love Charlie... I love his reaction....This post reminds me of when Alex had his surgery... Marc called the vet to see how he was doing, and if we could pick him up later that day. the vet replied,you can come get him now, he wants to come home. When we got there the staff asked who our pet was, and when we told them, they replied, oh, Alex... You guys can get him from the back yourself. He doesnt like us too much....
Maybe his/her hands were not too clean :-)
