53 Shiny New Words

Bloggie friends!

I am horrified to report to you all that I wrote a total of 53 words of my shiny new short story after taking Tuesday off to do be all writerly creative.

That’s from starting at 9 am sharp and finishing… just before midnight! LOL!

Yes, I got most stuck delivering that oh so important knock-out first sentence!

Oh but I did rustle up a mean courgette cake and baked a pizza from scratch! Yay!

Charlie says: I discover the bath tub. I do not like it.

Happy Midweek!!

Charlie, we hope you weren't in there for a real ::whispers:: bath.

Fifty-three shiny new words--well, that's better than 43 or 33. LOL. And it's perfectly understandable, since you were otherwise occupied. ;-)

P.S. While I'm not a writer and have no aspirations to be one, it is my understanding that you are supposed to write--write anything, even if it's cr*p. Just write. Edit later. So never mind the first sentence, yes? Put something down and keep going!

Well that's better than just 52 words! Hey Charlie, run!!!

But 53 GREAT words. And a cake and pizza to boot!! Success!!!

I just posted this comment in reply to your excellent comment just now on my self-publishing post:

Word of mouth IS the big thing, Jennifer. I've read this over and over again. What you say about Moses's strategy is right on. Publish the novella to generate sales for the book that's coming up. But I'm thinking here that the second novel or novella could get the reader to the first one, in my case my memoir. I think my next one will be novella length, which is why I'm thinking of self-pubbing since agents/publishers seem to want LONG books and my life is quickly getting shorter!!

I have days like that - but I bet those 53 words are fantastic! :)
And who doesn't like pizza? Seriously.

Oh Charlie - I hope there was no water in there!!!! Mom sounds like she took a detour into the kitchen instead of heading to her desk!

Best wishes on your new story! Sometimes its that first section that's slow going, but then the words flow from your fingertips and you're off and running!

"Best laid plans" The way I look at it is you accomplished what you were MEANT to accomplish! You can't rush or force the creative process, maybe you are like me and you work better under pressure?

Charlie I don't like the bathtub much either, I am a shower girl lol

Charlie, You know what ? Bath Tube is a great litter tray...tee..hee...I used it when my pawrents forget to close the door : )

Yay for figuring out a knock out first sentence! Tell Charlie he can't hate the tub until he really tries it out. He might become a fan of long soaks with bubbles and candles.

Your food descriptions are always so mouth-watering Charlie is so lucky to have the human who loves to bake. Except Charlie most likely doesn't give a fig about cake.

That's woeful. May the goblins of productivity smack your bottom.

That's 53 more words than we wrote today. I like that word midweek. You don't hear it much in NY.

That happens with me to. Sometimes I can't fit in creativity into my time off, it often comes when I'm super busy.

As long as they were 53 good words, it was worth it!

Hahahaha...I got the first sentence done on my new project yesterday: I'm not sure if I'm You or You Too. That's what Mom calls us when it's time to eat.

Distractions are always lurking around every corner...

Good luck with your new story, Jennifer.

Firstly, you have my sympathies. I've been at my computer for most of today and not written a single word. So, to both of us, get writing!

Secondly, courgette cake? Please tell! Me wants some of that.

Charlie - would you sooner have a bath than a shower??!! Of course you had to cook while you were doing your writing - you can't have inspiration on an empty tummy!

I don't think I've ever seen a cat that enjoys discovering the bathtub, lol!

Oh, you crack me up, Jennifer! hey at least you wrote something. There are days that I don't write a single word. Taking a break to cook, is not a bad idea at all ;)
Love Charlie's pic!

Goodness that home made pizza sounds yummy. Too bad you only got 52 words written but the important thing is you started so ideas will come to you as you are baking or snuggling with Charlie.
Don't blame you Charlie for not liking the bath tub. Have yourselves a terrific day.

RoySr said...

Writing CAN be so very slow when you are going for that perfect manuscript after all.

Take care and watch the water in that tub. It's 'wet'!

Ann Dziemianowicz said...

Had to look up courgette cake. Is it zucchini? I've had zucchini bread, but not cake. Sounds elegant!

The creative muse is always doing the dishes and not to be found when you are starting a new writing project, so don't be too hard on yourself! :)

Charlie: I sympathize!

53 words is bettter than 52!

I've tagged you on my blog - don't worry if you don't want to join in, but I thought you might find it fun.

I see that cooking is a stress reliever for you Jen, or a away to procrastinate?

Does Charlie like to take a bath?

Elizabeth Mueller said...

Ack! But that means that you are 53 words ahead than when you started. ;)

I'd love to help bounce ideas if you'd like to get your muse going again! Email me! :D
