Hope

Bloggie friends!

Amidst all the looting and carnage and general bad things happening here in London and elsewhere in the UK - it is just so heartening to read of how groups of volunteers – mainly organised via Facebook and Twitter - are banding together to help clean up the mess left by the violence in their towns and cities.

The full news report of such community spiritedness may be read here.

And for once I shall refrain from being a silly old humbug about these new-fangled social networking sites as I normally am! :-)

Thanks to lovely Donna Hosie for also highlighting this fab Twitter happening.

Charlie says: I purr for light at the end of the tunnel.

Please take extra care bloggie friends in the UK and lots of hugs to all my global bloggie friends who were very kind to ask about me and Charlie!

You all ROCK!

I am so happy you, and Charlie, are OK. I did not realize you were so close to the problems. Isn't it wonderful how a community can came together, especially in the hard times, and work to make things right again!

Take care my friend,
Shawn

Hi Old Kitty,
The cleaning up of the mess on the devastated streets of our cities, is very reminiscent of the folks who cleaned up the streets of Vancouver after the riots they had there in June.
It restores your faith in humanity.
Glad you are well and let's hope for a peaceful, positive future for all of us.
Take care, Gary

I still can't believe what happened. It's crazy. On the flipside, it's fantastic about how people are banding together to help.

We've heard about the volunteers too. A similar thing happened in Vancouver when they lost the Stanley Cup (hockey...just a game, for @&#% sake). There was rioting afterward and a lot of damage, but so many people came out to clean up. Of course what's happening in London and other areas in the UK is on a far larger, more terrible scale...yet it is *heartening* to know that there still is good to be found.

Please be careful, stay safe.

So glad you and Charlie are okay! And how awesome that so many are chipping in to clean up. What a mess! I've been dealing with passengers changing their travel plans because of it. Thanks for sharing the link!!

Charlie - we think many kitties in the affected areas are purring for peace and the end to the mindless violence. We are lucky not to live in a built up area but we see that our nearest city was affected by the mindless violence last night. The sad thing is we don't think it is because of it being a deprived area but just for the greed of looting.
Glad Jenn and you are safe.

Thanks everso for your visits to our bloggie and always leaving comments that bring a smile to our faces!

We are so sad watching the news and seeing all those hooligans ruining people's lives, businesses.

But, like you said, to know there is good out there and people joining together to help, is something good to focus on.

Kind of like the way the Cat Blogosphere makes us feel when we hear of people harming animals...

That is just horrible what is going on in London. We are so glad it doesn't affect you. The world is a sad place right now. Charlie, you as usual have the right idea.

Hi Jennifer,
Indeed, it's extremely sad to see these riots. Violence only attracts more violence and solves nothing. In a day and age where communication thrives, you'd think people would use it to express themselves in a peaceful way. I just hope this hostility/turbulence subsides soon. Take care!
