Stop daydreaming!

Bloggie pals!

Loving these top 10 writerly tips from the utterly fabulous PD James
(93 years young and still going strong, bless her), especially her one at no. 5:

"Write, read and don't daydream".
As in don't daydream how successful you'll be without doing the hard work of actual writing! Yikes! LOL!

Now remember those hanging plants of last week's post? Well here is where I found them:

A construction site! How amazing is that!?!

Charlie and Gumtree say:  We dream of a tidy bed.

Have a peaceful week y'all. Wishing everyone a reflective Remembrance/Veteran's Day.
On another sombre note: my heart goes out to those caught in typhoon Haiyan's path.  Very sad.

I just had a daydream that it was night time. Oops, it is.

Nothing like a well hung plant.

Penny will sort out the cat's bed.

We shall always remember and we shall think about those who continue to serve. And such a sad time in the Philippines.

Yes, a tidy bed is much more fun to mess up and play burrowing yourself under the covers in, isn't it?

I had no idea P.D. James was in her 90's, that's amazing.

Just reading about Typhoon Haiyan, how dreadful for all those caught in its path, and those who are left behind to clean up.

Hope you, Charlie, and Gumtree have a good week!

Dreaming is useless if you aren't willing to work.
We celebrate Veteran's Day here and I hold anyone who served in the service with the highest regard.
I don't think most of us can fathom the amount of people killed in the Philippines.

I'm going to have to check out those writing tips.

Thanks for sharing, OK. I too am praying for the people devastated by the typhoon. I was just watching coverage of it on the news....

Writing is hard work, but Charlie and Gumtree look ready for the challenge!

That's some great advice from P.D. James. She's an amazing author!

I never would have imagined that those plants were at a construction site!

We like your dream, Charlie and Gumtree. :)

That is amazing! I never guessed it was on construction site!
Charlie and Gumtree are looking cozy and comfy on the bed! I can't say much about tidiness because I'm very bd about making bed tidy :-)
Have a wonderful new week!!

That is the oddest place to find those plants! And I think Gumtree and Charlie like the bed tidy or not :)

are you cold Charlie? Perhaps hugging Gumtree will warm you up :)

The news form the Philippines is very sad ...such a horrible typhoon! I hope aid will be coming their way quickly.

Finding pretty hanging baskets at a construction site is so unusual --a nice idea by someone.

Gumtree and Charlie look quite comfortable :)

I am a chronic, terrible, addicted daydreamer. Sometimes that helps my writing, but other times it just gets in the way.

Love where the hanging plants are!

Thank you for mentioning Veterans Day. My Dad was a WWII vet and I miss him.

Is PD James 93? And still going strong? Wow, great genes!

No, I wouldn't have thought those plants would be at a construction site. Wonder if it's a female admin person (very stereotypical on my part). Nice touch!

It's Remembrance Day here too, so a somber day on many levels. I'm really trying to keep my perspective on my own petty problems, as none is life and death, either via armed conflict or via nature's destruction.

Peace and Mercy to All Beings.

I will certainly check out PD James' tips. Thank you
Do you think those plants were left by that vigilante group who try to make urban spaces more beautiful?
Will check out the previous post :O)x

Hi Old Kitty - interesting addition to a construction site's office or workshop ...

That tip .. from PD James is a good one isn't ... 93 and still going strong ..

You too have a peaceful week .. and I somewhat agree with Charlie and Gumtree .. make the bed!!! - yet don't disturb us ... how - I really don't know!!!

Typhoon Haiyan sounds as though it has caused major, major hardship for many and will do for a generation to come .. dreadful.

With thoughts to all those in the Philippines on this Remembrance Day when we remember those who served. Hilary

Love your new blog design. And so true that you have to write to be a writer. I so need a big sign that says that in front of my face every day right now. Have a great week!

Oh dear, I'm the worst daydreamer ever! I better write that particular tip on my hand or something.

Hannah sleeps next to me every night but unfortunately she gets up every hour or so and walks over my pillow and then via the bedside table jumps on to the windowsill and after a quick look outside comes back the same way! I'll swap you for your two bed hogs!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

I read those tips, too. Surely a little bit of daydreaming is allowed? Even essential?

A tidy bed can't be as comfy for a cuddly cat as a rumply one.

A construction zone? That's amazing. Wow. Sometimes life is stranger than fiction, eh? I wonder who put them there...

I would not have guessed that you found the plants at a construction site!!

We hope you have a wonderful week!

An unmade bed is the most comfy according to the kitties we've known. Charlie and Gumtree look pretty happy I think. Interesting about those hanging plants at a construction site. I wonder how that came about.

We're paying for the Philippines. It's so sad.

Lydia Kang said...

That's actually good advice! For me, it's "turn off the internet and write!"

Connie Arnold said...

Daydreaming is only all right if it leads to story ideas that you act on. Charlie and Gumtree seem quite content and cute! The typhoon devastation is heartbreaking. Plenty to remember and keep in prayers this day.

I think that's a perfect quote. It's the writing itself that's the journey--not the fame and fortune.

How nice that someone decided to spruce up a construction site. I can only imagine how you miss greenery working on a site day in and day out.

Thank you for sharing these helpful tips from PD James. :)
My mentors always told me (#2) to write about what I know. I have experimented with writing about what I don't know and, luckily for me, it paid off. I think sometimes we have to take chances. There's always an exception to the rule. (#3) Finding my own routing, now that's a tough one! I don't have one. :(
I'll keep these tips as a reminder.
Thank you so much for sharing them with us, Jennifer!

Excellent tip! I say we should dream big, but WORK toward the dream!

I like that you mentioned Veterans Day, too. My husband served in the Navy.

Last week I saw one of your comments (which I always love) on a blog. Something about Captain Picard's arms! Hee! You're fun!
