Telly addicts

There I was asking my lovely work colleague – who is in her 50’s – if she saw this programme on the telly the other night only for her to inform me that she’s not owned a television for 29 years.

Of course my next question was “But what do you do instead?”

To which she replied, “Other things”.

Gumtree says: I watch Charlie all the time!

Have a great week y’all and please step away from the Christmas stuff already out in the supermarkets! LOL!

Wow Gumtree really does stalk Charlie. There are a lot of people without TVs. I rarely use mine as an actual TV but I would probably have trouble adjusting to life without the internet.

No television? The horror...

Christmas stuff? *gasp* NO!!!!!

I don't watch TV either. We spend our time in books, me and the littles. Ah, such a great alternative.

Christmas stuff already? Sheeeeeesh! That's not right. Ugh.

haven't seen xmas stuff just yet

That's a long time to be without a TV. I don't watch much because I'm busy but I do like it for the news and a few shows and movies.

Have a great week!

I didn't have a TV for 2 years, then I bought one but I rarely watch it. I got into he habit of "doing other things"

I'd be a basket case without the Boob Tube!

LOL, now my mind's wondering what she's up to!

Well, our human grew up without TV in the house till adulthood and working. It was black and white TV then.

We barely watch TV here too! We do "Other Things" lol!
Gumtree, keep an eye on that Charlie!

fairyhedgehog said...

But, but, but... No Dr Who! No New Tricks! No Elementary! Mr Hedgehog and I would have to talk to each other!

The cats think that the guinea pig cage is cat tv.

The Furries of Whisppy said...

With so many of us, Mommy doesn't need a TV. MOL!

joanne fox said...

Oh yes, I've seen those chocolate Santas, glitzy cards and baubles! But I am trying to ignore them as long as possible!

Simon Kewin said...

I kinda get that. Although there are certain programmes that make having a TV essential - Game of Thrones, QI, one or two others, so much of what's on is so hideous I do other things anyway mostly...

Fuzzy Tales said...

Good for her! One of my co-workers hasn't had a TV in years, either, though she and her hubby watch movies via Netflix.

I don't know what I'm paying for, there's nothing on. I watch a bit of HGTV (Home & Garden), some programs on public broadcasting, the news (off and on), and the weather. That's pretty much it, not worth the monthly cable fee.

Hannah and Lucy said...

Thank goodness we've got a TV or Mum would never learn of any new and deluxe cat food.

There are people in my church who don't have a TV or only use it for DVDs. I bet they get a TON done!

Rene said...

We admit we watch very little television here--we much prefer reading!

Janet Johnson said...

LOL! I really like your co-worker. I watch videos instead of television, and while I sometimes feel left out, I don't really miss it. Have a great day!

Lydia Kang said...

I hardly watch TV. I'm on the internet all the time instead! Not a good alternative...

Brian's Home Blog said...

No television? The other things sure must be exciting. Howdy boys!

Annie Bear said...

That's a little vague. What "other"things"? Well, she's probably better off. I like Gumtree's idea the best anyway. Have a great week!

ANGEL ABBYGRACE said...

I imagine if you don't watch TV you do get use to not having it. That is pretty amazing nearly 30 years that would mean when she was in her 20's. No family?? I would think maybe she was single,an entire family agreeing to no TV would be unusual. We kitties say tv or no tv makes no difference to us!

Tamago said...

Oh wow, no TV for 29 years? I love her reply. She sounds very lovely lady :-) I don't really sit and watch TV but have it on as background noise. Of course watching kitties is much more fun :-)

Christmas stuff already? Oh dear....

We know a few people without televisions, too. It seems kind of strange, but sort of refreshing, in a way. As for Christmas stuff being in the stores already ... that is just SO wrong!

I wish I could go cold turkey on the TV.

I know a surprising number of people who don't own a telly.

Oh my gosh! No telly? For 29 years, no less?

Gumtree's got a good idea--keeping tabs on Charlie!

Christmas in stores in September? Oh no. I've seen Halloween stuff but have missed seeing Christmas things.

Unknown said...

Crikey ... no TV? And it's the 'other things' that people do that's caused the population explosion. Oh, my!!!

You have a great week too :)

Julia Hones said...

Nice. I don't watch TV either. There is a television in our basement but I don't use it.
Have a lovely week, Old Kitty!

William Kendall said...

These days it's easy enough just to watch what you want to online.

Saku said...

I may not always watch it, but I always the television on for background noise. Then there are the favorite shows that a must sees. Yet when I was in university, I only allowed myself one program per week and I survived.

I know, isn't it nuts, it isn't even Halloween and the Christmas items are out in the stores. Just the other day I got my Sears Wishbook (mail order).

Gumtree is looking to Charlie for lessons in being a mancat!

Have a great week!

Helena said...

I'm so late commenting -- forgive me, Old Kitty dear.

We don't have Christmas stuff in our stores yet but we're already getting Halloween stuff. Oddly, I like Halloween decorations now more than the Christmas stuff -- burnout on all that tinsel, I guess.

If I didn't own a TV I'd get so much done. But hey, I'm a nerd who watches educational and history documentaries in between the fun shows, so I like to think TV can be worthwhile.

Can you imagine watching Television in America? What a frightening thought. The shows are just filler for the adds.

I see you are still talking in American, y'all!

Morrisons, half price Christmas gift wrap, middle of August.

Cheerio, y'all!

I have a television but honestly I don't watch it very often. I still like to have a tv to watch an occasional movie or a news story.

I'm not ready for Christmas --that's for sure! lol!

Debbie Coope said...

Skip Christmas. Roll on period dramas.

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

I think it's a good thing not to have a tv. I'm certain I'd be far more productive without one.

Teresa Ashby said...

Christmas stuff, yes I've seen it - before the school summer holidays had even finished - aaargh! x

Is there seriously Christmas stuff out already?! That's nuts!!

Momsy likes the TV. We watch it with her sometimes, too :)

Your coworker sounds like an interesting woman. But we all do other things, don't we? Some of us do a few of them on the internet. :)

Have a happy week.

TV can be a fun way to pass the time. We usually watch movies. I haven't seen a network tv show in many years.

I don't watch much TV, but I do enjoy having one!

I wouldn't miss TV. I do have my computer, after all.

Wow 29 years?? Amazing! good for her. I actually havent watched network / cable telly in years, but I do like my movies. :)

Hilary said...

I dont watch much tv (except to help me fall asleep) but I can't imagine not having one....

don't you wonder what other things?

Margo Berendsen said...

I don't have a telly either and don't miss it! I don't know how I'd find time to write or read. My kitties don't mind either, as long as they have food and a lap to curl up on! :)

Maria said...

Kitty, in India we've a way to go before Christmas. Tons of holidays in the way.

I'd never miss the television. Not when I have books.

Sushi said...

No tv? Yipes! That's too boring.

Theresa Milstein said...

29 years??? I don't watch that much either, but I couldn't live without it!

Christmas stuff already? I'm not even prepared for Halloween.

I haven't watched TV in years. But that's because I'm always on my computer instead.

29 years without TV? What the... it's impressive. The whole idea isn't in my realm of understanding, but if she's happy, then I'm happy for her.

Nice post, great blog, following :)

Good Luck :)

I've heard of those without TV and they are so much more productive. Not sure I could live without...
