The Visitor

Bloggie friends!

Look who visited me and Charlie on Good Friday last week!

A very lost and pleasant pheasant!

Charlie says: Dinner time!

Not to worry – there’s a field behind the big house so off it went there!

Charlie and I continue to enjoy our Easter break, so we'll be back anon!

p.s. after 4 months and 12 days I finally finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Phew! LOL! All I can say is while the central story of the Vanger family was compelling, riveting and utterly devastating, chapters 1 and 28 on wards were a chore to read! And the novel was riddled with pov jumps I found totally distracting! Just my humble opinion!

Happy April Showers!

Aha, what a pheasant read this was! :) I'm very impressed with you being a reading cat :) Of course, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, has a whole library of books.
Enjoy the rest of your Easter break.

Now that was a strange visitor!! Hope you enjoyed your Easter.
After four months, I have read only a few pages of the GWTDT..my daughters lloved it but I'm having a hard time staying focused!

what a lovely pheasant! Would Charlie have tried to catch him, do you think? One of my cats once thought he'd have a go at a turkey but wisely changed his mind :)

The book isn't for everyone.
Glad you and Charlie had an interesting visitor!

Beth Zimmerman said...

I haven't read that one. Glad the pheasant escaped winding up on the dinner plate! :)

Old Kitty, I'm so glad Charlie can't nab the pleasant pheasant.

Happy Easter!

My husband and so many people loved The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I haven't read it. I'm not a big fan of POV jumps, so it's good to know.

WOW! How neat that you saw that pheasant. We had one in our backyard last year ... really neat.

And we liked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, too. Great book, but difficult in places...

Charlie, I can't decide which side of you is prettier, the frnot or the back? I am just in love with those ears :)

I think Au would have wanted to eat it. Charlie, you're a nice boy!

I'm not sure if I'll read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo -- I already have a towering stack of books to read. I saw the Swedish movie and had to pay close attention to the subtitles or I would've been lost, and a couple of the scenes (you know which ones) were truly tough to watch. Still, it is a compelling story.

Have a wonderful Easter break. And I'm relieved the peasant is safe from lovely Charlie

I had to wade through The Dragon Tattoo as well. I'm not game to read the other two.

I hope you had a wonderful Easter!

We have a balcony which is visited by several birds every morning. That is the time when our two cats sit in front of the glass door, watching the birds while telling stories in cat language.
Sometimes it seems the birds laugh at the cats .....

Patsy said...

We've got April showers here - not complaining though as the rain was needed.

Mark said...

It's always good to finally finish a book, and to get a visitor. I don't think a pheasant would have such luck with my cats, unless it had an escape route.

Angel Ginger Jasper said...

Nice bird that visited. Glad it got away though. Mum said she didnt enjoy that book at all..Enjoy your break.. Hugs GJ xx

Hilary said...

I admire you... I don't think I would have been able to stick it out... I give up reading when a book is a chore...

Creepy Query Girl said...

hmn. Is it strange that Charlie and I are thinking the same thing? What can I say?- pheasant sounds yummy:)

Fuzzy Tales said...

How many meals could Charlie get out of that pheasant? :-)

I confess that if a book is a "chore" to read, I put it down. I used to wade through anyway, but now feel my time is precious and if a book doesn't resonate with me, I don't feel obliged to read it. It's not a failing on the part of the author, just my own personal taste.

Natalie Aguirre said...

I've wanted to read that but heard that it moves slow for the first 100 pages. So I haven't been able to make myself pick it up.

Enjoy your break.

Katie Isabella said...

Mommy said her mouth watered looking at the pheasant. heee heee.
XOXO

Rick Watson said...

I actually downloaded the book from Audible and listened to it while driving.
That made it very enjoyable to me. I also listened to the other two. I really liked those books.

Hannah and Lucy said...

I haven't read that book and to be quite honest I did pick it up but quickly put it back on the shelf!
Can you get into the pheasant's garden Charlie - you could invite him home for dinner!!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

I hope that pheasant found a safe place to be!!

I don't think I'll ever read that book - it just doesn't seem like my style.

Unknown said...

I haven't read it but I'm not sure I could put up with the first 28 chapters. Isn't 28 the size of a normal book? How long is this book!?

Hi Old Kitty and Charlie - sorry you lost your 'peasant' Charlie .. she'll be happier stalking in the field though .. unless she ends up on someone's dinner plate - I rather like them .. sorreeee

I read it very quickly I think realising if I didn't I'd get lost along the way .. so can understand your thinking. I might have put it down and never picked it up again .. I did enjoy it though.

Cheers and enjoy Easter Monday .. bit wet down here!! Hilary

And a handsome ring-neck one at that. I bet Charlie's tail was a'twitch'n.

I still haven't read any of the series yet. I haven't watched the movie either. Maybe later on I will. And Charlie's thinking, "There's my Easter dinner!"

Hart Johnson said...

I love those interesting birds! Pheasants are great (though I am most fond of quail with their little head bobbles)

And I would agree Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was really under-edited. I forgave them, though, as Larsson was dead, so it's not like HE could do it.

Soggibottom said...

Well done :-) YOU ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK. We couldn't even follow the film.
Hey, Charlie, hope you had some yummy Easter treats.
Lots of love Freya Rose Blossom X and co.

Bossy Betty said...

Ooooo! Loved the visitor. Bet Charlie did too!

Susan Fields said...

I guess I loved the story so much I could overlook its shortcomings, because I really enjoyed that book and totally intend to read the other two, but the first one took me so long I figured I'll wait a while to dive in. I actually started listening to the audio book at one point and couldn't finish because the beginning was so boring, but then after I saw the movie and I knew it was going to get good, I got the book and managed to skim my way through all that and get to the good stuff.

Happy Easter break to you and Charlie!

Luna said...

What a lovely surprise!

Ooh...I haven't read those books yet, but I did end up watching the American version of the film. Very intense and disturbing at times.

Hope you have a wonderful week! :)

Tracy Jo said...

Beautiful pheasant! So fun to see things like that...what a nice visitor. :-) I have had Girl with a Dragon Tattoo for months and haven't started it. Not sure if I will...so many others I want to read. Have a wonderful evening!!! x

William Kendall said...

Charlie must have been thinking, "So near, yet so far..."

My parents fed the birds through the winter at their old house, and had a platform for peanuts outside a second story window. The cats would sit and watch birds land, less then three feet away from them, and lick their lips.

cleemckenzie said...

What a great visitor! Even if Charlie couldn't feast on pheasant, he had some lovely thoughts about it. I can tell by his riveted stare out the window.

Haven't read Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet. The film was difficult to watch, so I'm expecting hard times in the prose version of this story.

I haven't read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
POV jumps are interesting. Maybe the author aimed at distracting!

I hope the rest of your break is wonderful.

Wow. A pheasant isn't something you see every day! My mom and I saw one walking across the driveway one time--they're strange to see at first, since they're too big to be pigeons or something and not quite like chickens. :)

I didn't really like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo much, either.

Hope you and Charlie continue to enjoy your Easter break and the pleasant scenery! I haven't read The with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet. I'll probably see it on DVD before I get around to reading it. So many books, so little time!

At least Charlie didn't bring the pheasant in, as Rufus did with the woodpecker the other day!

Jayne said...

A pleasant pheasant! What a challenge for my tired typing skills today. :)

My cats saw a plump pigeon preening in the back garden yesterday. They watched from inside and kept asking me nicely to open the door, but I refused, as the pigeon would have gone from preen to panic in no time at all!

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

I don't like POV jumps and usually avoid writing them.

Charlie's looking fine this Easter! Bet he was licking his lips looking at that pheasant.

Wow, that is exciting that you had a pheasant in your yard Charlie. It might be a little big for your dinner though.
Hope you both have a super week. Take care.

I think I might pass on that book.

I've not had anything as diverse as a pheasant in my garden. Just two really fat pigeons after my sparrows bread.

one guy in grade school, a recent immigrant, kept saying: peasant under glass; i tried to correct him, to no avail :P

i read the trilogy, after waiting for more'n a year for the final to come out in paperback [i was NOT going to pay $35 for the hard cover], and though a chore at times, enjoyed it, overall

saw original film online... well done, i think....

April showers is right here in my neck of the woods! It was a warm, gorgeous day on Easter, but it's rainy and chilly today.

That book is on my to-read list, but I'm in no rush! We see more wild turkeys near our place (and antelope) but I do dearly love to see pheasants! I bet it was a thrill for Charlie!

Fun visitor. I didn't care for that book either. The sexual violence was too disturbing. Plus, I didn't like the protagonist by the end of the book.

I've been wondering about the book. The film left me with an unpleasant feeling, and I kind of wished I didn't watch it. There was so much violent sexuality it felt overdone. I was hoping the book offered a better story of the family's history, since teh film didn't give a good sense of it. Only thing I did like about the film was Lisbeth's character. What a complex character she is! Very interesting!I'm using her for L
