A boo-boo!

Bloggie friends!!

Where'd Tuesday and Wednesday go?!!? :-)

Charlie says: I look only for next door.

Oh bloggie friends! I made such a boo-boo attempting to critique the first chapter of a lovely classmate's novel in progress. I ended my critique asking her questions about her main character only to realise later as I re-read the chapter that they've already been answered.

I'm so not cut out for this critiquing lark! LOL!

Oooh the spring temperature is hotting up!!

LOL! I'm sure she'll understand. Or, at least I hope she does! :-)

Gee, except for 2 days in what, several months? our "hot" weather is about 7C. A rainy, raw 7C that feels like I should be donning long johns again. What a sucky spring.

don't feel bad. I do the same sometimes when I read blogs. I ask the very thing they just said. I guess I don't read and comprehend or recall to well! lol
Charlie, what are you looking at next door?

I think I'd be a terrible crit person. I just want to know the story!

And that's the kind of mistake I'd make, so don't feel too bad :)

Don't worry about the reading..kitties aren't supposed to read anyway..we're to be read to..like the prince and princesses we are.

Kitty,
I'm not a good critique! I know better than to even suggest i do it...now I am a grea editor but that's the extent of my talents...
Charlie looks like he's open to the task!

Sometimes critting is hard. I often have to go back and delete some of my comments as they get answered/addressed later.

Well everyone makes mistakes. And all this lovely weather has turned our brains to mush. We just want to laze in the sun and snooze.

Don't worry, I'm sure it will amuse her! She might need a laugh at that point.

Lydia Kang said...

I do that too, when I'm critting. I'll bet it happens to a lot of people!

I could never be a book or movie critic --too much pressure and I'd hate to hurt soemone's feelings!

Critiquing can cause many red faces Old Kitty. Never mind. We all do it, or try hard not to.

Critiquing helps you grow as a writer though. Spring is slowly coming in here in Casper- I say slow cause we got snow two days ago...

Brigid O'Connor said...

I don't like critiquing either, its a tough job.
Congrats on the Queensland book, I am going to get it when it comes out in paperback, looking forward to your story, well done!!

Awh don't be too hard on yourself, with everything practice makes perfect and experience is the key. I'm guessing that Charlie is looking to the future when you will be a confident critiquer! He's a wise chap :O)

Patsy said...

Maybe your friend's chapter wasn't quite as clear and easy to follow as it could have been?

Ellie Garratt said...

Yes. Where did Tuesday and Wednesday go?

Aah. Critiquing. I'm okay if it's a fairly small amount, otherewise I'd probably do the same as you!

Angel Ginger Jasper said...

I am sure you will not be as bad as you think lol. The days run away with us ans while mum is on the sick she wonders how she ever found time to work. Its cold again down here and we want the hot sun back please. Hugs GJ x

Hate when that happens! Your so lucky your temps are warming. We are on a weather yo-yo. One day warm, the next freezing...

Why are looking at next door Charlie - are they likely to give you a treat or two?
Don't ee all have days where ask or do something silly? - I'm having one of those days today!!

Actually, that's brilliant! You're the perfect reviewer. Obviously the writer (a) did not make the information interesting enough to stand out (b) or she needs to make it clearer.

If you missed it, then other readers will as well. She needs to know this information and improve it.

Susan Fields said...

When critiquers do that with a piece of my writing, first I look to make sure the question really was answered, and then I wonder whether I need to make it clearer. If you missed the answers, then probably other readers will too, and maybe your classmate needs to make it clearer. So even boo boo's can be helpful!

oh! don't worry--tell her what you did, and that should make it all better!

I'm betting you still made comments and/or suggestions that were helpful. ((squeeze))

scratches to Charlie~

It depends on what type of story it was. Some are easier to critique than others.

Charlie looks happy being out in the sun. Good that the weather is hotting up! :)

wildcatwoods said...

Charlie you are looking so extra handsome today. Don't know if we could critique much better! You tried.

Bossy Betty said...

I am sure your friend understands!

Hart Johnson said...

Don't be too hard on yourself! Critiquing takes practice, but besides that... if a skim doesn't make stuff clear, maybe the writing needs to be a little more blatent.

Soggibottom said...

Think you are the only one to drop clangers :-) ? :-) :-) :-)

Ha ha,

Raining down here, Charlie, get your wellies out little mate Or make sure when you have to go out, some one has hold of the brolly.

Charlie and "Old Kitty", you're back!

Sometimes those days can go faster than you like.

Charlie, you look so handsome sitting there like that.

And "Old Kitty", I'm sure you're doing just fine with that critiquing!

Beth Zimmerman said...

I wouldn't be a good critiquer either. I tend to speed read without realizing it. Of course that does make it easier to make it through so many blogs!

Anne R. Allen said...

I think there's a time muncher out there this week. I was furious this afternoon because my Tuesday appointment was late.

Until I realized I was the one who had missed it.

Because it's Thursday.

We all give bad critiques. Especially those of us over 40, who are in groups where there's a long-running novel being read over many months. "Who's Susie?" we ask. "The Protagonist," says annoyed writer. We cringe and move on.

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

critiquing is a skill unto itself.

Why are you looking next door Charlie???

Thinking you both, always

Theresa Milstein said...

Ha! I've done that before. Then I write, "Oh, okay." That's what's good about doing track changes on-line, then I can delete my mess ups.

I checked your blog Saturday, and the last post I saw was the last one I commented on. Now there are all these ones I missed. How is this possible? Google gremlins?
